Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are kaput.

The reality TV star released a statement through her publicist confirming that she’s divorcing her NBA player husband of 72 days.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” she said. “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

Her decision seems to have taken Humphries by surprise. He put out a statement through his representative Monday afternoon saying “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce.”

“I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents,” he added. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”

In divorce documents posted on  TMZ.com, Kardashian cites ”irreconcilable differences” as her reason for ending the marriage. The documents list Laura Wasser as Kardashian’s attorney. Wasser is known for brokering star divorces, including those of Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Angelina Jolie.

Kardashian and Humphries signed a pre-nuptial agreement. Her net worth is estimated to be $35 million; his is approximately $8 million.

Kardashian, 31, and Humphries, 26, married on August 20. Their wedding cost a reported $10 million and garnered a multi-episode television special on E!

Rumors about the couple’s marital problems have run rampant since they tied the knot. Last week, Kardashian told  People magazine that their first days of marriage were “not ideal,” but her mom, Kris Jenner, claimed that the couple was working on their problems.

Kardashian, a frequent Twitter user, has yet to tweet about her divorce. That hasn’t stopped her famous family from rallying around her online.

“We appreciate everyone’s kindness and support.  @KimKardashian, we love you,” her older sister, Kourtney Kardashian  tweeted. In another message, she wrote, “Our sister is going through a difficult time but we’re a close family and are sticking together like always.”

Younger sister Khloe Kardashian had stronger words for those criticizing Kim.

“Reading some these comments r so hurtful,” she wrote. “Im grateful 4our fans who understand & r being respectful. Hate is disgusting. Love is everything”
