Ex-Porn Star Reads to School Kids

Former porn star Sasha Grey took her talents a less adult audience by visiting Emerson Elementary School and reading a book to students, which caused the school to receive several complaints and at first deny Grey’s visit, TMZ reported.
“We have several celebrities who read to our students each year,” a spokesperson for the school told TMZ. “The actress you indicated was not present.”
But photographs uncovered by the entertainment website and a tweet by the actress told a different story.
“Spent the am with Read Across America Compton, reading to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade students @ Emerson Elementary,” Grey tweeted.
A spokesperson for Read Across America told ABCNews.com that Grey was not affiliated with the program.
Grey responded to the backlash from her visit Friday by telling the entertainment site: “I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent.”
The ex-porn star, who made her last adult film two years ago, most recently appeared on the television series “Entourage” playing herself.

It may be that the comment above is entirely correct — not sure what her real motives are. While it is, on the surface, obviously great that she is reading to kids, it could be more than a bit awkward if and when naturally curious kids ask more about her — what she does, where she works, and so on. So, then one either lies to them, or gets into talking about inappropriate things to some extent. Odd situation.

George W. Bush read to kids. What’s the problem? It’s not like she was doing it naked.
You want to know why so many kids are getting pregnant these days? Because parents try to act like sex is something that doesn’t exist. Then when kids find out about it anyways, parents either act like it’s something evil, or they put it up on this pedestal as though it were something that is magical and special. PARENTS are the ones who build the interest, and kids fall victim to their own instinctual curiosity.

As a former coordinator for a large school literacy program, I totally support this woman and her volunteerism. She is doing a great service and her past has nothing to do with her ability or her passion for reading to kids. In most programs that i am aware of, a teacher is always present in the classroom and all voluteers are tested for TB and screened. I don’t know what the uproar is all about here. I guess the born agains are throwing stones again. Maybe they should read the bible or something and also clean the skeletons out of their own closet.

First…not sure WHY THIS IS NEWS?? and no not picking on ABC, because I seen the same story on FOX and MSN? Seriously why is this news?

Most everyone has compassion for young children. She is not a sexual predator or a convicted sex felon that I’m aware of so I think she can have just as must impact on these children lives as any other adult who would volunteer their time to our schools. I’m glad to see many other positive remarks here today. She is a well known actress in her former industry and is very highly regarded. I think we should welcome almost anyone who can spend a few minutes of their time volunteering in our schools that can have a positive impact on our childrens lives, minds, and hearts.

I think that I read in the article that she didn’t read to the students. I am unhappy with the school for lying about her reading to the students in the first place. It doesn’t matter what anybody does for a living, if they want to read to the kids and it doesn’t harm them there is no problem. I work in a packing house does that mean because I kill animals I am should not be allowed to read to the kids??????

I dont see what the Problem is with her reading to them. The Kids have no idea what she did for a living. We all know that the schools are loaded with teachers that take advantage of young kids and no one seems to be bothered about that. Yes there are many who are hidden from public view but they are there nonetheless. While She may not have chosen the best Avenue to go into She at least Worked hard and stayed clean and respectful in the Biz. That cant be said for many in that Field even today. Point Im trying to make is Parents and schools allow Kids to see much worse on TV, Movies and Video Games and Id be much more afraid of People Like Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and the List goes on influencing our Youth!

I dont see the problem with her reading to kids. At least they wont see what she does. I am more concerned about some of the sick counselors that they see everyday. They present more of a hazard than she ever will. She killed no one, she is fully dressed, and she poses a threat to no one. As far as the adults go, they are hypocritical. Go home and they look at sex films!

To all you Bible-thumpers, “Born again” Christians, Religious fanatics, ad nauseum, I have news for you. I agree we must keep our kids safe from the corrupting influences of our society, for their own safety. Murders, rapes and thievery must be kept out of their lives, so they must be protected from televised news and newspapers, since this kind of evil is often reported in this media. Even Yahoo is guilty. And speaking of which, why are YOU even reading this stuff? Doesn’t your posting about such things make you a hypocrite? After all you must have read it to make a comment about it.
We must also keep our kids away from people who lead less than stellar lives, again for their own protection. The simple fact that you people even know who this woman is and what she did in her past means you have led a less than stellar life. We must remove your kids from your presence, again for their own safety.
The real kicker is that ALL of these situations are found in your BIBLE. DO NOT expose your kids to this book for ANY reason. By your won reasoning, it WILL corrupt them, since by simply reading it they are exposed to all those bad things you are trying to protect them from.
You people are the biggest hypocrites I know of and your “morality” makes me sick. Jesus’s closest female friend was an ex-Prostitute, a fact which you either don’t know or don’t care to know. Do your job and raise your kids yourself. Don’t try and make other people do it for you.

Wow! I love how some of you automatically start beating up the christians just because they didn’t find something appropriate. Hey….CHRISTIAN here and proud of it. And forgive all of those parents who believe as I do….children should be kept innocent as long as possible. If for no other reason than they only get to be innocent for so long before they get to see the ugly truth of what the world is really like soon enough.

I think its kind of neat that she wants to turn her life around. The school probably wanted to give her a second chance, and were pleased she’s trying to get on the straight and narrow again. That’s what school is all about.

First, doesn’t ABC have anyone edit stories any longer. I can’t believe the shoddy writing I see anymore. I don’t think Sasha has any problems with sex and minors, thank goodness there weren’t any Catholic priests doing the reading, they have a much bigger problem with sex scandals and children. Get off the high horse people. Like someone else already said, this was in Compton, where drugs and violence are a regular way of life.

I think this story was just put on to start controversy and gather more eyeballs for their advertising rates. Its really not of much interest. Apparently she quit being the former kind of actor 2 years ago and is now recreating her career and this was a nice way to donate to the community. She obviously handled herself well as no one is accusing her of anything. We need to encourage people to recreate themselves along positive growth lines. The burn thema nd damnation crowd leaves me cold.

How many moms are reading to there children? With the way jobs are now,Moms are probably working two part-time jobs to make ends meet! Give this young ladyla standing ovation for caring about kids.. This is how I see it, maybe this is her way of healing, building her self-esteem.. Life is hard enough to be negative about possitive things in the world… Good Job beautiful lady! Keep it up..

Well until 1 of my grandchildren recognizes her and asks for her autograph for me or my other half…I SAY, “READ ON GIRL!” Are these parents upset she can read more thana script of:”OHHH YAH!!!!” I’d HATE to have those complaining parents. OH WAIT! One of those kids went home and said, “Daddy Daddy! That lady’s much prettier than in the movies you watched with me!! GIVE ME A BREAK! For such a supposedly forgivng country….some sure are judgemental! I’ll send a personal invitation to Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake and have the infamous Superbowl nipple fiasco that probably would have gone unnoticed without the event. It is disgusted me to see people attempt to be the moral police. You are all hypocrites. I doubt many of you know actually know what is being taught in today’s Health Class. Schools are passing out condemns and people are not protesting or filing complaints? In California, schools are teaching children about lesbians and homosexual lifestyles and do parents speak up? Are parents complaining? These are two issues people should be complaining about! Yet, let a former adult industry star “read” to children and people are outraged! She was participating in the National Education Association-sponsored “Read across America” program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, Calif., reading to first and third grade students. She has courage which I doubt many of you have. I think it is very honorable of her to start a new chapter in her life by reaching out to American’s youth. I have no problem letting her read to my child if she was visiting my school district. She was respectful and did an outstanding job reading to the kids? If patents have issues with this then why don’t you take the time out of your day to participate in this program?

nteresting Sasha simply didn’t cut a check ANONYMOUSLY to a reading program.
That way she could of helped the cause without creating any controversy (oh wait that WAS the plan) or be subject to criticism.
Nope, made CERTAIN TMZ and the media were damn SURE we knew about it.
