Sofia Vergara to Campaign for Republican Boyfriend?

Nick Loeb and Sofia Vergara.

If they weren’t so gosh darn congenial, it could be the makings of a “Modern Family” feud: Today, Sofia Vergara’s boyfriend Nick Loeb is expected to announce his decision to run for a Florida Senate seat.

He’s a republican. Vergara’s on-screen husband, Ed O’Neill, is a democrat who campaigned for President Barack Obama in 2008. And Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Vergara’s son-in-law,  hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for Obama in September.

Vergara has voiced her support for Loeb’s political ambitions in the past.

“I’m very excited for him,” Vergara told  People magazine in July. ”If he decides to [run], I think he will be amazing. My boyfriend is very inclined to politics and that’s his passion.”

The 39-year-old actress has been dating the 35-year-old businessman for more than a year. He’s been eyeing Democratic Florida Sen. Bill Nelson’s seat for months. He previously ran for the Florida state Senate in 2009 but dropped out to deal with his divorce.

Vergara is expected to be by his side at a Miami press conference this afternoon. She’s already embraced her potential new role as a politico’s better half.

“Of course I will help him, why not?” Vergara told People. “I support him with everything. If that’s what he wants to do in his life, I will be there for him.”
