Twilight ‘Breaking Dawn’ Scene Allegedly Causing Seizures

Fans of the “Twilight” movies have much more to worry about other than the series of films coming to a close next year, as a scene in the latest installment has reportedly been causing viewers across the country to have seizures.
Several instances of people saying they have developed seizures during the tense birthing scene in “Breaking Dawn: Part One” have been reported. The in-theater seizures, also known as photosensitive epilepsy, are thought to be a result of the bright flashing of red, black and white during the film’s nerve-wracking scene.
Brandon Gephart and Kelly Bauman had gone to see “Breaking Dawn: Part One” last Friday when Gephart began “convulsing, snorting, [and] trying to breathe,” according to Bauman. He doesn’t remember anything, he says, but soon awoke on the theater floor and was taken out by paramedics. The remainder of the screening was cancelled.
“It’s like a light switch going off, because it hits your brain all at once,” Dr. Michael G. Chez, medical director of pediatric neurology and epilepsy for Sutter Sacramento told CBS 13 in Sacramento, adding that “the trouble with theaters, it’s dark, the lights flashing in there is more like a strobe light.”
Instances of the scene inducing seizures have been reported elsewhere across the country. In Utah, a married couple told ABC-4 in Salt Lake City that bright, graphic scene caused the husband, who doesn’t want to be named for fear he could lose his job, to pass out and led to his entire body shaking.
“I didn’t really remember what happened after that I think I blacked out. According to her, I was shaking and mumbling different noises,” he told ABC-4.
His wife was sitting by his side in the theater.
“He started mumbling and he was blinking on and off with his eyes at that point. I was kneeling in front of him slapping his face,” she said.
The couple said that they left early, and when they returned the next day they heard that it had happened to another girl watching the film too, though the manager of the multiplex where they viewed “Breaking Dawn” said he doesn’t know of that instance.

This actually happened to my husband on Monday. Scared me to death!

This definitely happened to my friend on Friday as well, she went to the hospital and everything

Can totally agree with this, but I was the one who passed out and was brought to the hospital last Sunday. Not a fun experience.

Maybe they should put some kind of warning sign up in the theaters about it so that no one gets crazy and tries to sue them!!

How stupid of the filmmaker to not realize that flashing red lights can cause seizures. They should have at least put a warning out.

“convulsing, snorting, [and] trying to breathe,” That’s what happens when you expect to see a real film and go to watch the “Twilight” nonsense.

I DON’T THINK IT’S THE LIGHTS. I THINK IT’S THE SCRIPT.
Posted by: Voyeur | November 25, 2011, 10:35 am 10:35 am
Oh, and here I thought that it was the plot.
Though, I do understand the husband’s reticence in coming forward. If he wasn’t fired for going to that stupid movie just to appease his wife he would certainly be emasculated at work.

I don’t understand. Strobe lights have been used in discos for years and I have never heard of people having seizures. This is pure nonsense. I’ve never seen or read anything related to the Twilight series and I have no intention of doing so. This is a publicity stunt to get people to the theatres. I wonder if these people are plants. Ridiculous!

This exact same thing happened to me last saturday, it was during the birthing scene when exactly like the article said, the light switch turned on in my brain, I have never had any problems before this. I started blacking out in the theatre and my hearing went away. I stood up and pretty much ran through the people in my row and when I got to the end of the row I headed for the exit. I had to sense of balance and hit the wall and the door of the theatre and finally stumbled to the bathroom to calm myself down. I thought I was dying, it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I hope the makers of the movie do something about that scene so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Well, it didn’t happen in West Virginia. Clearly; we can take on anything. (:

My daughter became violently ill during this scene. Our family suffers from vertigo, and any scenes like this can cause issues. I cannot watch IMAX or 3D movies because of my vertigo. She came home ill from the movie after seeing it with friends. I had no idea this is what happened. Makes sense now. I am really angry at the filmmaker for not giving a warning for folks like us. We won’t come if you tell us it is going to happen. Irresponsible Hollywood yet again.
Posted by: Stephanie Lasister | November 25, 2011, 1:41 pm 1:41 pm
Come on guys. It’s commonly known that flashing lights WILL cause seizures. It’s like that Pokemon episode that hospitalized all of those kids
It isn’t funny. Warnings are found on games which cause seizures in epileptics, yet this movie didn’t. It’s like people are forgetting how dangerous they are. Yes, the movie sucks, but this isn’t the time to be putting down people who get seizures because of their choice of entertainment.

@Andrew Lolowesky, I think the reason the man was afraid of losing his job was because of him having a seizure (he could be a pilot or heavy machinery operator or something like that). Though I can’t figure out why any man would admit to watching this movie…

Maybe there is just something wrong with people who have vulnerable brains to such a visual stimulant, don’t blame film makers or theaters, Blame your genetic bloodline, your gonna have powerful humans and weak humans, that’s why there are flawed humans, procreation of inferior genes.Sure we all like to blame others for our downfalls sometimes, but if a handful of people have episodes while the majority doesnt, that clearly shows you that they are not designed like the others, I have never had a seizure from anything, have never broken or fractured a limb, maybe get sick once every couple of years, rapid healing, and a natural high level of intelligence (ability to self teach most anything). Lol “stop blaming others for your flaws”
Posted by: TRUTH | November 25, 2011, 4:41 pm 4:41 pm
Well, Carole, you can call it nonsense if you like but it’s a fact that strobing lights – set at a certain frequency – DO cause seizures. Clearly those used in discos are not strobing at the same rate or we’d have a whole lot of seizing people, wouldn’t we? And yes, as someone else mentioned, there was a moment in a Japanese anime’ film that caused 700 kids (not all at once) to have seizures. You make yourself look silly when you comment without knowing the facts.
Posted by: puppyfeet217 | November 25, 2011, 4:49 pm 4:49 pm
It’s also quite possible that people who are susceptible to strobe-induced seizures know not to go into a disco-type situation. But there was no warning that a MOVIE would have such an effect. And for those of you who are skeptical, I have several friends who cannot even look at websites with a lot of flash playing on them because of being seizure-prone..
When my nephew was young, I took him to see the Transformers movie for his birthday. It was done in such a rapid shifting pattern that we both got tired of it and left, though fortunately we were not made ill by it.
These film makers need to be more responsible.

Wow…the same thing happened to my 11 year old daughter last Sunday. The last thing my daughter remembered seeing before her seizure was when Edward stuck the needle in Bella’s chest. She felt like she was going to vomit, her vision became blurry, the movie started spinning and she said it was like a black curtain closing in front of her face and everything went black. We left the cinema in an ambulance. She had a seizure 3 years ago that was unexplained so we didn’t associate it with the movie until now.
Posted by: Shannon | November 25, 2011, 7:32 pm 7:32 pm
I forgot to add that right before she had the seizure she said, “Mom.” I looked over just in time to see her slump over and start seizing. I am 100% positive this was a seizure as I’ve seen people have them before. She does NOT have epilepsy and even had EEGs, CT scans and MRIs to check on this when she had an unexplained seizure three years ago. She DOES get migraines, though, and she also got one just before the seizure. So, anyone prone to migraines might want to look away during the birthing scene.
Posted by: Shannon | November 25, 2011, 7:48 pm 7:48 pm
OMG, the same thing happened to me! The first hour was fine. As it neared the birthing scene, the images of the wolves speaking internally in conjunction with the noise level of the dialogue, needles, Bella’s gaunt appearance, and shaky screens, I felt a weird blanket-like darkness wrap over me. I remember telling my daughter that I had to leave because I felt surreal, nauseous, and like I was going to pass out. I left the theater to go sit out in the lobby–trying desperately to hold on to my senses. The manager asked me what was wrong, but I just played it off because who would have associated the movie with this occurrence? This news post clarifies much for me. I guess it affects some people differently. I’m glad to know I wasn’t going crazy. How do we prevent this from happening again?

So thaty explains. Yesterday I went to see the Muppets movie, and arrived early, so I snuck in to see Twilight during that scene, and upon walking out I nearly fainted. But then once I made it across to the Muppets I was ok.

I had a seizure on Saturday during Breaking Dawn. I was in a theater in MA. The movie was stopped and I was taken to the ER. It was my first seizure and I have had follow-up appointments. I was shocked to see that this was happening to others. I could give you specific information if it helps.

this happened to my sister last week in AMC freehold. she passed out in her friends lap during the scene with the birthing and she did urinate her pants as well. she was brought to the ER right after it happened one of my sisters friends called my mom and let her know what happened. this is very serious and sad :( for people who have to go through stuff like this.
Posted by: ashley | November 25, 2011, 9:48 pm 9:48 pm
To those people who think they can call BS on medical studies, read up. It is a known fact. I went to the movie last Friday and started to pass out due to the graphic birthing scene and my body/brain not reacting well to blood in the first place. While I was in the middle of fainting I had two seizures lasting a minute each, one after the other. If you are someone who has had one before you know how scary this is. It is nothing like passing out. Luckily I have insurance but the whole thing is going to cost me a big headache as well as a lot of money in follow up appointments, tests, and not to mention the ambulance refusal and ER bill. This is obviously not a scam to get people into the theatre. There are already a ton of people obsessed with the series they don’t need to lure people in by lying about large numbers of people having a seizure due to a fake birthing scene. Come on, really?

This story is poorly written. We are given two accounts and one in anonymous. Every journalist knows that an anonymous account might as well be left out completely. This is pure sensationalism. Yes, certain patterns of flashing lights can cause seizures in people with epilepsy. If you are NOT epileptic it is more likely that you do not deal well with graphic pictures and gore. The scene is intense. This movie is not for children, hence the PG 13 rating. If you have a weak stomach stay home and don’t bring children. This is a powerful scene, believe it or not, it was very well done. It stayed true to the book. This series gets increasingly darker. There weren’t any toys marketed for this film, and every publicity piece that was done the actors informed us that it was going to be quite gory. People who have light sensitive epilepsy should be on medication, they also know that many things can trigger their seizures. It happened during Avatar, it can happen during video games, and YES it can happen in clubs. My husband is an M.D. and thinks it is highly improbable that every person having problems during this film is an epileptic. It is much more likely that people are having moments of intense anxiety or panic attacks. The writer of this story needs to speak with some other physicians and find many more people willing to go on record, before writing such a sensationalized story. The other comments on this thread do not warrant my attention. Highly odd individuals love to voice their uneducated opinions. Hopefully this “journalist” will do their job correctly next time.

My sister passed out twice during that scene. We had to call 911 because she wasn’t breathing…we think it was her head falling forward cutting off her air. The doctor in the ER said that this was possibly the cause.

I never had any seizure problems before, but during this moveI definitely had an episode. I went to the midnight premiere and was with some friends. I felt fine the entire movie and then once the birthing scene started, I felt really sick to my stomach, and the next thing I know i’m having tunnel vision, my hands started shaking and my body went limp and I fell over onto my best friend. I remember her waking me up asking if she should call 911. I told her no, that I was going to be okay, but it definitely freaked me out. I couldn’t hear anything and had the fainting sensation for a good 10 minutes, and also wasn’t able to move any of my limbs till about 15 minutes after the movie ENDED. It was a good movie, but I’m definitely not going to see it again after what happened :/

I saw the movie two days ago and during this scene (around the part where it shows her insides/veins haha) I told my boyfriend that I felt sick all of a sudden. We made our way out of the theater quickly because I thought I as going to throw up. I remember getting to the bottom of the stairs (feeling pretty shaky/ nauseous) and the next thing I knew I woke up on the floor of the lobby. I thought it must have been from all of the blood and nature of the seen, (since it did get a bit gory) however I had never been the type to get super nauseated at the sight of blood and I had never fainted before. When I read this article I got so excited to hear why this happened! Here I was just thinking I couldn’t handle what was going on in the scene, when in reality it was really a medical concern! Thank you for the information (and making me feel better about the whole ordeal knowing that I wasn’t the only one!) :)

Robin…my daughter is almost 12 and two years ago she was present for the birth of her nephew and did not have any problems. This is not about not being able to handle blood or graphic images. It’s about the flashing lights. I was right beside my daughter when she had her seizure. Since I have worked with people with disabilities for about 25 years, including people who have seizures, I do know what a seizure looks like. Since my daughter underwent testing for almost a year to rule out epilepsy that wrapped up only 10 months ago I also know that she does NOT have epilepsy.
You need to look up and read about EEG tests. That is one of the tests they do to check for epilepsy and seizure disorders. They deprive you of sleep, wire you up to a brain wave monitor and measure the electrical wave activity in your brain. Part of that test includes exposing the person to intense strobe lights to try to cause seizure activity. When my daughter had that test in March of this year she did NOT have any seizure activity. She had activity indicative of migraine headaches due to strobes, though. The reason some people are having seizures from the flashing lights in this movie is because they are more powerful than the ones done by neurological tests intended to actually cause seizure activity. Anyone who gets headaches as well as anyone who has ever had a seizure before needs to be very careful if they are going to go to this movie. If they start to feel sick, get a headache or their vision becomes blurry get OUT of the theater fast and do NOT look at the screen.
As for the age of a child relating to PG 13 movies…I viewed the movie first to make sure it wasn’t too mature for my child. She is almost 12, has witnessed a live birth in person, knows where babies come from and doesn’t get queasy at the sight of blood. I was sitting right beside her. She has never seen an R rated move, though, and I always watch the PG13 ones first before letting her watch them. It’s not the content of the scene that is casing problems…it’s the flashing lights and they really need to fix it because it is obviously more powerful than the strobe lights used in the EEGs to cause seizures. Having to get all those tests, take an ambulance to the hospital and visits to a neurologist is very expensive and if they don’t take it seriously and fix it then they’re going to end up being sued. Because of this my daughter now has to get a 2 day EEG, which isn’t going to be very much fun. Thank God we have insurance that will pay for it.

Wow! Some people are really rude about this. The fact is it happened to more than one…not looking for money…it was real and it was scary to see someone you love go through this. I just think people need to be informed. The doctors we have been seeing all have stated that lights can cause this.

A woman was taken to the hospital in San Antonio on the second day of the showing. My daughter was very upset and it was during the birthing scene. Apparently, someone screamed turn on the lights and no one knew how. The film kept rolling as everyone stopped to make sure she was escorted out of the theatre.

Shame on those people who THINK people are reporting this as a means of bandwagon propaganda. My story was quite real. In fact, the way they are mass producing films anyway (with the darkness to extreme light, loud efx, and constant repetition of substances be it blood, gore, rows of flowers, or whatever) there NEEDS to be disclaimers on the movies so those who are prone to epilepsy, fainting, or other neurological disorders can be fairly-warned. Trust me. If you did not suffer, then consider yourself blessed! I feel sorry that I went through it and I definitely am MORE moved by those who had to be escorted out by ambulance. This occurrence is quite obvious that new technology is not ALWAYS the best solution to “good cinema.” Again, shame on you, naysayers, who are criticizing parents for taking their tweens to see it. The novel was centered around teenagers initially.
The moviegoer is not to blame. They paid money to go see a show. They did NOT bargain on having to pay ER fees and/or experience an attack whether they were based on anxiety alone. Anxiety attacks need triggers. Something fishy occurred during that scene. Repetitive lights, extremely loud sound efx, loads of CGI technology, and blood triggered folks who have a high sensitivity for neurological disorders. Although I support the actors and the author, I think if they were aware of this problem…I think they would offer some type of disclaimer or PSA to protect their young fans. NC is where I watched the movie. I plan on warning everyone I know. I do NOT plan on seeing this again.

My 18 year-old son had his first seizure ever during this scene a week ago. He has seen many very gory movies (and enjoys them.) He was seen in the ER afterwards, and by a neurologist a few days later. The neurologist confirmed it was a seizure. Now he needs further testing. Does anyone know if the CDC or other health agency is collecting information about these cases?

For all you who say BS and are saying oh this is fake, it’s not. I’m not sure exactly if this is what happened to me but i passed out moments after the birthing scene. My vision started getting fuzzy and before I knew it my mom was calling my name and shaking me. She said she couldn’t tell if I was breathing and at some point she thinks my eyes opened but i stil wouldn’t come to. Finally when I did I had no idea when I passed out or what had happened and I hurried out of the theatre and got sick. It was a terrifying experience. I’m only 15 and this has only happened to me once in my life but never anything like that.

This actually happened to my daughter at the movie, we went via abulance to the hospital..The scarest moment of my life seeing my child like that. I didn’t even know this was happening, this is the first I am hearing of all this. I dont know if it was because of the movie but it was during this scean that she got ill and passed out 3 times.

My 21 year old daughter had an episode after the birthing scene. This has never happened to her before. No one came to her aid for 20 minutes as she lay on the movie theater hallway at the AMC in Torrance. A movie theater employee demanded her to get up off the floor and go sit somewhere else. This is unacceptable for the movie makers and the employee especially because there is scientific evidence that the flashing light sequence can cause seizures because the synchronization of lights interrupts the randomness of neurons firing in the brain.

This also happened to my daughter last week during the birthing seen of breaking dawn. She showed all the symptoms of a seizure. She started convulsing, lost her hearing, breathing hard, sweating and finally everything went black. She doesn’t remember anything after that except for waking up with the paramedics next to her and needing stitches from a deep laceration that she suffered from a fall.

It happened this week in lafayette louisiana. A man on the same row as me stood up and attempted to leave the theater after not feeling good, he took three steps and fell to the floor. It was during the birthing scene also. Finally the movie was stopped and the lights were turned on, after about 20 mins the paramedics was able to guy to his to his feet. He def did not know what happened to him. The manager gave everyone free movie tickets.

This movie is so ridiculous. I’m a pre-teen and had to watch my own mother have a seizure in the middle of the movie for NO reason. This movie needs to be taken out of theater’s immediately. She looked at me and passed out and then started having a seizure. This is SO RIDICULOUS. I can’t even put it into words.

This is not BS. Its actually true and as a physician it is more common that actually thought off and can hit anyone who has never had epilepsy before and can be very traumatic and dangerous at times.

My daughter started seeing black spots during the birthing scene so she got up and went to the water fountain. She passed out by the water fountain for about 5 minutes according to the security guard. The paramedics came and asked if it was during the birthing scene. Apparently this was their 3rd trip to the theater today for people who passed out during that scene. It was definitely not the blood and gore. She is prone to migraines and I think the flashing lights in that scene triggered something that caused her to pass out. It was scary and I am surprised nothing has been done about it. There should be a warning for this movie.
Posted by: Sue | November 26, 2011, 11:44 pm 11:44 pm
My teenage daugher, with no history of health issues, also passed out during this scene. She walked out of the theater into the hall because she felt sick and woke up on the floor. She has no memory of going down and was alone at the time. It was very scary!

I am living proof that seizures do occur after certain scenes in movies. I do not have seizures on any sort of a basis, “regular” or otherwise, however after the second viewing of “KICK ASS”, I soon realized that lights do the trick. I am not sensitive to strobe lights and have had my share clubbing long nights in the past, so I immediately relate the lights with the scene around you as to that on the screen. Just for tips: I also get a weird feeling when watching the opening credits of “The Big BANG Theory”, the first season. You know it when you see it. I love “Twilight”, guess I’ll have to close my eyes during the birthing scene, hmmm…….

This just happened at our theatre today as well, a young girl had a seizure during the birth scene and we had to call the paramedics. Not only that, but 3 people have thrown up, and a lot of little kids that moms brought in without reading the book have gotten quite scared and disturbed from it.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR LITTLE KIDS INTO THIS MOVIE. SERIOUSLY. Stop it moms, find a babysitter.

This also happened to me! I went to the midnight show with my two friends and it happened! I had blacked out and my friends had told me I was shaking and mumbling words while I was out and jolted awake. They were scared to death! I woke up and almost puked. That was the worst scene ever.

@ Elizabeth – Please don’t take this “puhleaze” attitude about this subject, it is just plain rude. Just because you haven’t seen it first hand yourself doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. Believe me when I say, you DON’T want to see it happen in front of you. Seizures are terrifying. Instead, concider yourself lucky that your experiences in the theater haven’t been ruined like other people’s have.

im epileptic and i can’t believe some of the comments on here, this is not a publicity stunt like some believe, this is an actual medical emergency that has killed people (im not talking about the movie and whats going on there), whether or not this movie is “good” (which i don’t believe it is, the books were better), it needs to be pulled from theathers or a sign needs to be put out saying it has caused passing out and seizures. also epileptics don’t go out and look for things to give them seizures, i know i don’t, if you’ve never had one before, you’re lucky because during that time, in the head of the epileptic, its a terrifying place :/

I just got home from watching the movie and had a seizure during the birth scene. I started to feel very sick while watching it and tried to make my way to the restroom, as I got to the end of the isle I fall to the ground and my vision went black and my i started having convolutions. This is no joke! I have had a history of faintly and having semi seizures but for unknown reasons. I didn’t think it could be because of the movie until my boyfriend told me that he saw something online about other people having seizures during this movie.

Give me a break!! Whatever more seats available for me to watch the movie over and over again :-)

@Julie, I hope this never happens to anyone you know. My 16 yr old was one of the ones that suffered a seizure and it is one of the scariest things you can go through. To see you child convulsing and completely out of it was a horrible experience.

I am so relieved that I found this link. My 14 year old daugher went to see this movie with a friend and during the night she could not sleep, she had difficutlies breathing. She’s had a big meltdown at home while alone on Friday. She is afraid to be alone and is getting panic attacks at least one or twice a day. None of this has ever happened before. Now I have to find medical help for her because she is afraid that it will keep on happening.

I used to be epileptic and had seizures at least 3 times a week. For the people saying that flashing lights causing seizures is nonsense, I can assure you it’s not! Strobe lights are very well known for causing seizures and it’s perfectly possible that flashing lights in the movie would reach the same frequency as strobe light sand be the cause of the seizures.

WHAT A BUNCH OF BS…THE MOVIE IS DOING GOOD , SO PEOPLE ARE SAYING THINGS TO TRY & SUE…IM SO GLAD I LIVE IN F…… USA WHERE ANYBODY CAN SAY BOO & SUE….THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LIGHTING. November 20th, I had to call 911 from the bathroom floor because I could not move, and my breathing was heavy and uneven. I was taken to the ER by ambulance. I missed the end of the film and yes it happened just afer the birthing scene.

I am so glad to find this article! My husband and I went to see this movie and I had a seizure during the birthing scene–I have never had a seizure before. We’ve spent the last week in hospitals for various testing, including CT scans, EEG, etc. It has been terrifying. It’s good to hear I’m not alone, and good to know what might have caused this.

While watching Breaking Dawn on Saturday night, we witnessed a young teenager have a seizure and it was very scary!! The theatre stopped the movie and waited for the ambulance to arrive. It was a horrific moment for all!! Just glad the girl was going to be ok. Please warn all family and friends of the possibility if prone to seizures!

I went to watch the twilight breaking dawn movie this past Sunday night (11/27/11) with 3 other close friends of mine and I had a seizure. I felt like I was going to get sick, my body started to ache (neck and back), I felt very uncomfortable and finally had to turn around completely in my seat whispering “I can’t watch this” to my girlfriend, is the last thing I remember before blacking out. my friends and a man I didn’t know explained to me what happened while I was out. My body arched back and I made heavy snorting sounds til finally I woke up looking weak and delirious to them yelling at me “are you ok?? do you know where you are?? ” My girlfriend then took me out of the theater and splashed water on my face got me some water and I sat there confused, BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE A HISTORY OF SEIZURES! This movie caused it and It’s not a regular health problem for me. I hope that people realize this is not a publicity stunt and people who do have real life problems with epilepsy and seizures need to be warned, if fact everyone should be warned. I am not blaming anybody but I think people should know what happened!

My niece and nephew went to see Breaking Dawn and my niece had a seizure during the movie. She had never had a seizure before this instance. I am relieved to read that other people have had the same experience and that this is probably a once in a lifetime event for her. Also, shame on those of you who have written such terrible things aimed at the people who have had this happen to them.

I also had a seizure during the movie. I did the exact same snorting thing, and actually urinated when i passed out.
I am so shocked but also relieved that i am not the only one. Such a scary thing, and im happy to know im okay. Please ABC, give us more information.

Wow, interestingly enough this is kind of good news to me. I was worried that I my have a blood sugar problem or blood pressure problem and haven’t been able to see my doctor because of the holidays. So here is my story. I took my wife to the movies on the 20th of November. I remember fighting off a throwing up feeling then getting light headed. I tried to tense up my legs to regain blood pressure and asked my wife for here drink hoping extra sugar may help. Well in the end I couldn’t fight it off, she told me I was unresponsive for a bit, dropped the drink, feel into the chair in front of me, and began going into seizures. I was aware that something happened since I felt pretty ill still and knew I lost consciousnesses. I had completely sweated through my shirt. The last thing I remembered seeing was the guy biting into the girls abdomen. The sickness feeling lasted through the night, but felt much better once I woke the next day. I have never had an incident like this before, pretty scary for me, but really had/has my wife freaked out.
Still planning on seeing my Dr tomorrow, but relieved to know that this incident my not be as serious as some of the other possibilities. Please keep the info coming, definitely interested in others stories. Don’t mind sharing more about mine to those that are interested.

i have epilepsy so I definitely know that I cannot be around strobe lights or anything which has the same effect. Most of my seizures occured in the shower; driving through shadows from the trees above (which I no longer did until I had been siezure free for 2 years)

I can not believe how people can be so cruel to say that people r making up stories about having seizures and fainting! U gotta b kidding me ….if u ever fainted or has a seizure u would know it is the worst feeling and scariest thing ever! It is medically proven strobe lights can cause people with epilepsy to have a seizure and people with a sensitive stomach can pass out from the sight of blood. I have passed out not only during this movie but another movie in the past that had a gruesome blood scene. No joke! I have a medical condition and I wish there would have been a warning about this movie so I would have seen it. …..for all those making negative comments about those who this has happened to, please keep ur comments to urself.

I used to have seizures a lot when I was little….I really don’t appreciate all this BS and stupid comments. Really, people? Seizures are NOT funny. Grow up.

Wait, hold up, Someone is having a “seizure” and you’re slapping his face? Have you lost your mind? This scene was NOT harsh at all. I have seizures that are triggered by strobes & flashing lights and NOTHING happened to me during ‘the scene’ No, seizures are nothing to joke about. They are very serious IF they’re REAL!!! Snorting & screaming while you’re having a seizure? BS!! that doesn’t happen. I’m an MA and I am VERY aware of seizures and what happens when they are REAL! Those of y’all that are SO hard up for attention, get a puppy and stop wasting the valuable time of the paramedics & medical personal.

JD…this doesn’t seem to be happening to people who actually have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, likely due to those folks being on medication. I’ve been reading up on as many accounts as I can find and what I’m hearing most is that, like my own daughter who had a seizure during the movie, they are prone to migraine headaches. These people would NOT be on any anti-seizure medications. My child has actually had two EEGs and got no seizure activity from the strobe portion. They DID show she gets migraines from strobes, though. That means the strobe effect was more powerful than that from an EEG.

I work in a cinema in the UK and someone did in fact have a seizure during a screening of Breaking Dawn. It was a young woman, she was walked out by paramedics but seemed fine afterward

i live in mexico, my daughter who is 16 had the same horrible experience! this is insane! i didnt know all of this was happening with this movie! something to be done, at least the have to warn about this!!!

I just got back from seeing Breaking Dawn. I had a bounding rapid pulse and felt like I was having a huge panic attack. The last time something like this happened to me during a movie was when I had to sit too close to the screen during the helicopter scene in The Matrix. This is very real and I do believe a warning should be shown before the movie starts, though I doubt it would deter anyone, at least they would be informed!

Damn are you people really this ignorant? First of all, those claiming this is “publicity”? Give me a break. This would amount to the worst possible publicity imaginable for a newly released movie. Do you really think it would cause MORE people to go see it after hearing of all the seizures?
Secondly, the CIA , KGB, & MI-6 have been researching this technology for at least 70 yrs. But since everyone is too afraid of their own shadows these days, people would rather live in a bubble and watch NFL, American Idol, or ‘Best Housewives of Timbuktoo’ than dig up news that actually matters, like the fact the US just wiped out 5 cities in Libya, dropping 14,000 bombs on civilians? Maybe 1 out of 100 of you knew about that I bet. Point being, don’t come on here saying ‘this is BS’ if you don’t know jack sh%t about the subject.
Type in “mind control programming”, “MK Ultra”, induced trance, Dr. Ewen Cameron, etc. There’s ton of info online. You aren’t going to get the truth on TV so forget it. Take the next week and research these subjects & you’ll see this was no accident. This was a test as outlined in the military’s PsyWar experiments done in the 90′s with various electrical impulses and strobe trances. Sounds sci-fi I know, but it’s 100% true. You just have to take your head out of the sand & quit wasting time watching brain garbage.’
BTW, there’s a Facebook group where they are trying to document the cases of seizures. They need to know where? What city you saw it in. Please tell your story there so they can map out as many cases possible. It’s titled on FB, “Breaking Dawn Seizures:

This totally happened to me in November while watching the movie. That was the first time I’ve passed out and had a mild seizure. I don’t know if it was the strobe effect or the blood. I mean, I cut my finger on accident a couple weeks ago and I saw the blood drip down. I thought it looked kind of cool at first (I’m not gonna lie) and then after I put a paper towel on it I felt light headed and my hearing and sight started to disappear just like in the theater. I freaked out an put my head in between my knees and began to cry (lol). I was scared of going through that again. :1 It scared me and made me feel like i had no control over ME. Anyway, they should’ve really put out a warning.

@colleen THANK YOU. This isn’t fake and do you see me sueing people? No. I could care less, it’s just that experience isn’t fun and if you haven’t gone through it your lucky. You can die from this and some of you are saying its fake? These people aren’t doing this to get more people to see it it’s a warning. Which is what they should’ve done in the first place. Man passing out is terrifying.

Well, before this movie I probably would be ranting how this is all BS too! However, my 17 year old child who has never had anything remotely like a seizure had one during this scene in this movie! Now were seeing a neurologist! Had the EEG done and looks like my child’s has the photo-sens. Epilepsy. When your kid has something like this, believe me u start researching! Turns out this is real! Its a combination of events that needs to happen. Frequency of flashes, percent of viewing area and other things. I have supreme rage when I read some of these posts, but I know I might have thought the same thing before! Please becareful of what you say. The EEG is a test to determine epilepsy, guess what it entails: flashing lights.
