Sinead O'Connor Says Marriage Felt Like 'A Coffin'

For Sinead O'Connor, nothing compares to single status.

After four marriages, the latest of which lasted 16 days, Sinead O'Connor has a new perspective on men.

"I don't think I will even date anyone," the 45-year-old singer told the U.K.'s Sun tabloid three days after announcing her split from her fourth husband, Barry Herridge, whom she married in a drive-through Las Vegas ceremony on Dec. 8.

"It felt like I was living in a coffin," O'Connor said about the marriage. "It was going to be a coffin for both of us, and I saw him crushed," she said of Herridge, 38. "The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man."

Even their wedding night was a bust. O'Connor told the Sun that they spent their first hours as man and wife frantically searching for marijuana.

"We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous," she said. "I wasn't scared - but he's a drugs counselor. What was I thinking?"

"Then I was handed a load of crack," she added. "Barry was very frightened - that kind of messed everything up a bit, really."
