Jay-Z welcomed his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, into the world by penning a new song and taking to the mic to express his joy.

He released “Glory feat. B.I.C.” on his website Monday, using lyrics to reveal intimate details about his relationship with wife Beyonce and the birth.

Jay-Z’s song is the most recent musical tribute to a newborn, but it is by no means the first.

Inspired by his daughter Aisha Wonder, Stevie Wonder wrote “Isn’t She Lovely” and like Jay-Z, included her crying on the track.

Former Beatle John Lennon wrote the song “Beautiful Boy” for his son, Sean.

Congratulations to Jay Z and Beyonce, but if you are going to do a tribute to your daughter, you might want to take out the curse words please, you’re a parent now, time to start acting like one.

Although all 3 of the musical tributes to babies, written by their famous fathers, my favorite lullabye is a different Beatles tune, Blackbird.

Kenny Loggins – Danny’s Song…. best ever!

Diane, Do you, or does anyone, truly believe any of these tunes merit the description of lullaby?
They are pop, commercial songs, not melodies conceived to sooth an infant. Please don’t confuse a joy of parenthood with crass opportunism of pop celebrity. How much lower can we go than to “rap” an infant to sleep.

Congrats to the new parents. I like “St Judy’s Comet’ better than any of your given choices.

The best song a father wrote for a child is David Bowie’s 1971 “Kooks.”

Please Google it.

Lovely song lyrics and melody, basically saying “yeah we’re weird, but we love you so — “We Believe in You” — give us a chance and you won’t be sorry…..”

David’s son, Duncan Jones is now an award-winning film-maker with a Very bright future!
I’m glad he “took a chance” with some Kooks. (Mom excepted)… turned out quite well.

Should’ve included Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You”, written for daughter Maya; mamas write songs, too :)

I will be the only person to list this! “Mary Had A Little Lamb” by Paul McCartney & Wings.

I would rather sing Billy Joel’s
lullabye “Goodnight, my angel”

MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE LULLABY IS “MY DIANE,” THEME OF THE 1937 ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED FILM, “SEVENTH HEAVEN.”

“I’m in heaven when I see you smile . . .smile for me, my Diane.” Lovely, dreamy melody that every Diane, Dianne, Diahanne, et al, knows and loves.

Personally, I prefer the classic of all lullaby songs:
. . . Brahms’s Lullaby . . .

Johannes Brahms’s Wiegenlied: Guten Abend, gute Nacht (“Good evening, good night”), Op. 49, No. 4, published in 1868.

Listen to a song called “Hand on the Bible” by a band called Preacher Stone. It is a great song from a parent to a child. Preacherstone.com and on itunes.

Yoko Ono’s “Don’t Worry Kayko, Mammy’s Only Trying To Find A Hand In The Snow.”

I am very disappointed with JayZ’s new song. How can you have a lullaby with curse words? This song does NOT qualify as a lullaby! What happens when your child asks what does ****** mean? Out of all the words in the english dictionary, JayZ couldn’t come up with any words that was more appropriate?

Posted by: Gail Henry | January 10, 2012, 7:23 pm 7:23 pm

How can anyone even consider what JayZ wrote as music? It’s Rap, and bad Rap, at that. It’s unfortunate that the man is pandering to those who can’t speak properly because he carries poor English to the extreme. “We thought you WAS lost to us”. Really? REALLY?

These songs are all fine but the BEST Lullabye is Aerosmith’s “Mia” written by Steven Tyler for his daughter. You can hear the pure emotion in his voice. Beautiful song!!

Best newborn tribute: “The Greatest Discovery” by Elton John. Beautiful!!!

If you want to hear a gorgeous, sweet lullaby album get Olivia Newton John’s Warm & Tender album. It is absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. You will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

“…and rock-a-bye sweet baby james.”

My dad used to sing a song (I believe) from the 1920′s to put me to sleep every night.
It began:
“I saw tonight a lovely dancer and when I asked her her name,
she wouldn’t stop to give an answer-but went on dancing just the same…”

and it ended:
“He said I’ve guessed who you are.
You’re one of twighlight’s fairy daughters who must’ve fallen from a star.”

I’ve never heard anyone else sing the song and I can’t find it anywhere.
Anyone know anything about it? It’s my favorite.
Thank You, Daddy.

Stevie Wonder.. Still..get a tear and Chills. I am fifty-two and a mother of three. All Beautiful. One grandson.

Posted by: Norma Oldbury | January 10, 2012, 9:50 pm 9:50 pm

My grandparents raised me as their own child from infancy & they were always mom and dad to me. Mom had a beautiful voice (even at 93 when she passed away). As a child she would sit in my room and sing “You Are My Sunshine”. I remember I would try to sing the whole song with her but I always fell asleep before the end of the song. Daddy’s special song to me was “What a Wonderful World”. I found his voice so soothing, and to a little girl, that was just as comforting as a lullaby. These 2 songs are now my songs for Browen my 9 mo. old grandson, and Ashton my 3 yr. old grandson. Thanks mom and dad for loving me – I miss you both. God Bless Eveyone, and please remember to enjoy the moment.

Goodnight My Angel (Lullaby) ~ Billy Joel. It is by far more of a lullaby then those in the poll and is more applicable to people.

Posted by: Duane | January 10, 2012, 10:48 pm 10:48 pm

Hands down, Billy Joel’s “Goodnight, My Angel”…..this is what we call REAL music. How that garbage you gave so much air time to this evening comes to be classified as music is a story that only the media can tell, since they engineered it.

Crappy song, why cover this? Why not cover how the man was not allowed to see his newborn child because of these clowns. Who chooses the stories to read at abcnews?.. maybe the reason Diane Sawyer looks like she’s going to sleep.

You’re missing the best one of all… Jimmy Buffetts Little Miss Magic is… well … magic !

Many blessing to Beyonce an’ Jay-z an’ their new born Blue Ivory. My most favourite luliby song is Dave Gahan “Stay”, a song he wrote for his daughter Stella Rose. . Beautiful song. =)

Best lullabies I have heard are out of Asheville, NC~ “Love Is All You Need To Sleep” by Wayne Robbins (of Wayne Robbins & the Hellsayers) and “Start All Over Again” by Sean Robbins (of Warm the Bell). Yes, they are brothers and, hands down, both are amazing song writers. These songs were inspired by their children.

My daughters wanted to hear me sing” Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” every night and then they would be ready to go to sleep!

Hattie Violet,
My mom use to sing me the same song! You are the first person who ever knew what I was talking about. I do not know either. So, glad someone else remembers.

Hattie Violet, and B Velasquez,
My grandmother used to sing “Lovely Dancer” to my Mom, who used to sing it me. We have no idea where it can from either. I have been researching it for a long time and cannot find any info.
