Cindy Crawford Stops 10-Year-Old Daughter’s Modeling Career

Cindy Crawford has put her 10-year-old daughter’s budding fashion career on hold despite the girl’s recent success in modeling.
Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Crawford and Rande Gerber, posed last month in the first children’s modeling campaign for the Versace fashion house, which just opened a store in Milan.
But Crawford announced to “The Daily” that her daughter won’t be appearing in any more campaigns for the next seven years: “At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl.”
She does give Kaia the green light to follow in her footsteps later on in life: “But if she’s 17 and wants to try it, of course, what can I say?”
Not much, considering Crawford was discovered at 16 years old. Kaia’s father, Rande Gerber, was also a model.
Crawford’s strict stance may come as a surprise after she described her daughter’s modeling as a “fantastic experience” and said in a campaign press release: “I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign. … I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella.”
Many people recognized Kaia’s striking resemblance to her mother and she received praise from Donatella Versace.
“Like her mother,” Versace said, “Kaia has a very special gift. The camera really, really loves her.”

When I first read that she was ok with the way her 10 yr old was portrayed, I questioned her sanity. But now…. She just redeemed herself, she just won back all of my respect and admiration. Good job Mom! Way to put the best interest of your daughter first. priceless.

I agree Sharlyn, too much stress would be placed on a immature brain. Not good.

I don’t know why some parents would allow there kids to enter that world. That show Toddlers and Tiaras makes me sick. And the way some of those kids act. I would beat my kid with in an inch of there lives if they acted like that.

Hopefully its because she read about the VS model who quite because she wants to save her self for her husband and doesn’t want her daughter growing up like that. Modeling ruined my life and my self esteem. I’m proud of Crawford for making this decision!

Is this girl lucky or what? Beautiful with sane parents.

Cindy turned this into a lesson for the rest of us.

She’s been there, and should know what a cesspool the modeling industry can be … But it makes you wonder – why let her do the spread in the first place?

“At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl.” So this is her reason for pulling her from modeling? Because there aren’t any jobs? Her statement makes it seem that if there were jobs for this age group, she would have her daughter out there in a heartbeat. It makes me question whether this is a true motherly reaction or simply a PR ploy of some kind.

Letting her do something once is vastly different than letting her have a career. Just because she let her 10yr old model for something huge, doesn’t mean she was giving the green light for the kid to do it permanently or full-time. I let my kid do a skate-a-thon once. That does not mean I said she could go be a professional extreme skating athelete. Geez.

Cindy Crawford sounds like a good mother to me. She knows the modeling world better than anyone; her actions say something very significant without her saying a word. It’s not all peaches and cream. There are a lot of strange people in the modeling world. Cindy knows much more than we do and I would bet dimes to dollars her decision is based on all the not-so-nice things about the modeling world that we don’t see.

Did I miss something in the article. If she doesn’t want her daughter to be a model until she’s 17, why did she let her do the photo shoot?

Then why did she allow it in the first place? Geez.

Folks, how is this a “lesson for the rest of us”? If you read the article, Crawford “ended” her daughters modeling career because there are not enough jobs for 10-year-old models, not because she objected to the overly sexualized way her daughter was portrayed.

Shrewd financial move. Crawford waiting for BIG dollars offer. The daughter will be modeling very soon.

Shrewd financial move. Crawford waiting for BIG dollars offer. This is why crawford put her out there in the first place. The daughter will be modeling very soon.

Her daughter, like most typical 10 year olds would, probably went prima donna over the attention and her mom had to pull her out.

Good for her, she’s not afraid to be a good Mom.

I think people are completely over reacting to the picture, over sexualized? Toddlers and Tiaras is far worse. This girl is completely clothed and not standing in a provocative manner at all. She does look older than 10, that is the only issue I see. Regardless of the industry, if a model, actress or child athlete has a good solid parent in their corner, they should be fine. It’s when the parents are idiots and use the child as their income source or to live out their ridiculous dream.

Do child labor laws apply to modeling? Understand you need a toddler for toddler clothes, and a child for child clothes, but it seems like designers are using under 18s for runways and photos for adult cloting lines. Is that OK? I suspect there’s some grown-up models who need the work.

This kid is already richer than God. Let someone else have a chance! Nothing infuriates me more than seeing rich people’s kids get all the breaks.

It’s amazing that both of Cindy Crawford’s children are GORGEOUS. Her son is, if possible, even cuter than her daughter. Yes, both parents were models, but it doesn’t always turn out that the children of two beautiful people are attractive. And if you look at the siblings and parents of beautiful people, often times you don’t know where this gorgeous freak of nature came from. I mean, look at Whitney Houston’s parents and siblings (and daughter) – you would never know that the potential existed to create such a beauty.
