Leslie Carter Dies: Toxicology Tests Underway
Leslie Carter, the sister of Nick and Aaron Carter of Backstreet Boys fame, died Tuesday in upstate New York. The cause of death hasn't been disclosed but an autopsy was performed today and toxicology tests are underway. She was 25.
Law enforcement sources say that Carter was pronounced dead on arrival at Westfield Memorial Hospital in Western New York. It is unclear whether funeral arrangements will be made in New York or Toronto where Carter and her family have been residing recently.
Leslie Carter leaves behind her husband of three years, Mike Ashton and a 10-month-old daughter, Allysa Jane. "Our family is grieving right now and it's a private matter," a representative for the family said in a statement. "We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter and granddaughter, Leslie Carter."
Leslie was one of four siblings in the Carter clan. She appeared on the reality-TV show "House of Carters" in 2006 and had some success as a singer. Her song "Like Wow" was featured on the soundtrack for the movie "Shrek."
A note posted on brother Nick's Facebook page reads: "Carter is thankful to the many people and the fans who have shared their wishes and prayers during this tragic time. We want to let the fans know the tour will go on as promised.
"Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform." Also we ask that the press to respect Nick's privacy during his time of grief."
