'American Idol' Recap: Skylar Laine Gone

Nino Munoz/FOX

Skylar Laine got the boot on "American Idol" Thursday night.

After nearly 60 million votes, the 18-year-old Mississippi native did not advance to the top four.

Laine is heavily influenced by county star Miranda Lambert, and she sang Lambert's "Gunpowder & Lead" as her farewell song.

Hollie Cavanagh was in the bottom two with Laine, but she'll be around to compete next week.

Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips round out the top four.

Coldplay made their "American Idol" debut, performing "Paradise" with the stage covered in the fluorescent graffiti motif of their Mylo Xyloto album.

They took the stage again later in the show to perform "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall."

"Idol" champ Carrie Underwood also returned to sing the title cut from her new album, Blown Away, in stores this week.

"American Idol" returns Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
