"The Dark Knight Rises" star Christian Bale says he once dated Drew Barrymore, but the relationship ended quickly. Bale tells the June-July issue of GQ Australia, "We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it. She never called again."  Bale is now married to Sibi Blazic.

The two stars didn't make a love connection, but they do have a Spielberg connection.  Barrymore first gained fame after appearing in Steven Spielberg's 1982 sci-fi classic, "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial", and Bale made his big screen debut in Spielberg's 1987 film "Empire of the Sun".

"The Dark Knight"star also shares a caped crusader connection to Barrymore.  She portrayed Sugar in 1995's "Batman Forever".

On the subject of Batman, Bale tells the magazine, "I have been deeply honored to inhabit this character," adding, "It was a massive undertaking, physically, emotionally, every way."

The actor tells the magazine when they were in the final stages of filming The Dark Knight Rises, the latest, and what Bale says is his final Batman flick, he "stared at the cowl for a good long moment and thought, 'Man, this one really took a life of its own.'"

"The Dark Knight Rises" opens nationwide July 20.
