Katy Perry's New Music Video Shows Divorce With Russell Brand
Katy Perry's new music video for the single " Wide Awake" is being billed as her most revealing music video yet.
The video consists of stunningly haunting imagery of a confused Perry, navigating a maze through darkness as the walls close in around her. In one scene, Perry knocks out what looks like Prince Charming.
"'Wide Awake,' is definitely a metaphor for her big break up from Russell Brand," said Bonnie Fuller, editor-in-chief of HollywoodLife.com. "She felt that she was living in a fairytale, and that fairytale crumbled and turned to ashes."
The multi-platinum mega star sat down with MTV before the video's premiere on Monday, explaining why "Wide Awake," the latest single off her album, "Teenage Dream," is so personal to her.
"I'm super truthful and honest when it comes to writing and music videos, and I just want to continue to remain honest," said Perry.
Perry says the video is reminiscent of the deeply emotional state she's been in since rebounding from her sudden December split from husband of 14 months, Russell Brand.
The video seems to be following the same path of success of her previous singles off her album, "Teenage Dream." In just 48 hours, it has gone viral on YouTube with close to 1.5 million views and counting.
The "California Gurls" singer is gearing up for the release of her new movie out next month, "Katy Perry: Part of Me." The documentary chronicles her deeply personal journey from top of the charts to her recent split.
Perry says she hopes her own personal journey through, love, loss and music will send a positive and inspiring message to millions of her loyal fans.
"You can get through it and you can land on your feet triumphantly and strong," said Perry.
