'Amazing Spider-Man' Sets Tuesday Record with $35 Million Opening
" The Amazing Spider-Man," Sony's 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, earned roughly $35 million when it debuted Tuesday, a record for that day of the week.
It easily surpassed the $27.9 million debut of "Transformers" on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The opening-day gross for "The Amazing Spider-Man" included $7.5 million in Monday midnight earnings, and about 300 IMAX theaters contributed $4 million to the total. Some industry insiders believe the film could earn between $120 million and $140 million during its six-day debut through this weekend.
