Ian McKellen to Officiate Patrick Stewart's Wedding
When Patrick Stewart ties the knot for the third time with jazz singer Sunny Ozell, his friend and "X-Men" co-star Ian McKellen will be the one pronouncing them man and wife.
"I'm going to marry Patrick," McKellen revealed on the U.K.'s "Jonathan Ross Show" this past weekend, before quickly clarifying, "I am going to officiate at his wedding."
McKellen admitted that he doesn't know how he'll legally be able to do that but suggested that in "America, somewhere," it's fairly simple.
"I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married - I declare you man and wife," he said.
It's not McKellen's first time either. "I've done it once before, with two guys having a civil partnership [in the U.K.]," McKellen told Ross. "I was crying my eyes out."
For that ceremony, McKellen revealed he "went with a sort of gown, white, something I bought in India. It was rather fetching."
He did not reveal what he plans to wear for Stewart's wedding, saying only, "You mustn't upstage the bride."
Stewart's bride-to-be is less than half his age. The 72-year-old actor met the 35-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter in 2008 when he was performing in a production of "Macbeth" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The couple now share a home in Brooklyn.
