Hugh Hefner hit the big 8-7 on Tuesday, but he kept his celebration decidedly low-key.

Instead of throwing a big bash, Hefner tweeted that he spent "a long, lazy" with his wife Crystal, 26, and capped off the evening by blowing out two candles on a cake bearing their likenesses [below].

"This was a special birthday because I shared it with Crystal," he tweeted. "We didn't do anything unusual, but we did it together & that was enough."

However, over the weekend, there were a few fun events for friends who wanted to wish Hefner well: On Friday, he hosted a screening of "Casablanca" ("These are happy days," he tweeted of the evening) and on Saturday, after the octogenarian spent the day scrapbooking, he watched "To Have and To Have Not" with loved ones.

And throughout the dayslong affair, he was certainly feeling loved.

"Birthday greetings are coming in from friends, former Bunnies & Playmates from around the world," he marveled. "A happy day!"
