Ireland Baldwin Blasts Critics' Attacks on Weight, Parents
Ireland Baldwin is striking back, after critics on Tumblr and Twitter had some harsh things to say about her weight.
"Of course I get those comments about how I am too fat to model, how I am not model material, how I am an unattractive girl, how I am too tall, etc. I understand," the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger wrote Monday night on Tumblr. "I don't look as glamourous (sic) as [English model-actress] Rosie Huntington Whitely when leaving the gym."
Baldwin, 17, debuted this month in a bikini shoot on the Hudson River for the New York Post after signing with high-profile modeling agency IMG.
"I understand that I am not a size .008. What I don't fully understand, is what is the good in commenting on a photo of a 17 year old girl and calling her fat, ugly, etc? Is that helping you in some way? I'm confused," she wrote.
One critic commented "you have a 27 inch waist and you were signed to IMG? I don't mean for this message to be rude but I always believed you needed to have a 25 inch waist or smaller (I want to model and i'm trying to lose weight)."
The 6-foot-2 model has admitted to an eating disorder and self-esteem issues but says she has dedicated herself to a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious foods and working out.
She also addresses the stresses and problems she has faced as a child of famous parents. As the daughter of one of the most famous beauties, Baldwin constantly faces being compared to her mother.
"I AM NOT MY PARENTS. My mom is one of the most beautiful woman (sic) in the world. She is 5'9, I am 6'2. She is petite and fragile, and I am fit and …. more to love tehe. (sic) I have a booty, she has a thigh gap," she wrote.
She's no stranger to nasty messages, given the one her father left her in the infamous voice mail five years ago calling her a "thoughtless little pig."
"More importantly, my Dad has moved on," she wrote. "He recognized that he needed to change, so he made changes. He is now healthy, happily married with a baby on the way. He moved on, so why can't you?"
