Amanda Bynes' Lawyer Thinks She's 'Fine'

Amanda Bynes' increasingly erratic behavior has raised questions about her mental health, but a lawyer representing the actress in a Los Angeles DUI case predating her recent legal troubles in New York said he thinks the actress is just fine.

Speaking to People magazine in an interview that appeared on the magazine's website on Wednesday, attorney Richard Hutton said he believed media reports about her were "way exaggerated."

"I think Amanda's fine," he said. "I have no problems with her whatsoever. She's a fine client."

Bynes was arrested on a drug charge on May 23 when police accused the 27-year-old former child star of throwing a bong through the window of her Manhattan high-rise apartment.

The "Hairspray" star was charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana, but she's denied throwing a bong out the window and all the other allegations of wrongdoing, and she's even hurled accusations of her own.

Bynes accused police of entering her apartment illegally, sexually assaulting her and wrongly arresting her. The NYPD investigated the sex assault allegation and said there's no evidence to back up her claim.

Hutton said he talked with his client recently and that every conversation featured "nice, attorney-client, normal relations."

Even though he's not representing her on the recent charges in New York, Hutton said it didn't sound as though there was much to them, telling People: "The New York case doesn't seem like much of a case, really. I mean, come on. Even if you believe everything you hear, it's something that amounts to virtually nothing. And it's my understanding there's not much evidence to back that case up. There's no physical evidence to back it up. I understand there's no marijuana, no pipe."

Andrew Friedman, Bynes' lawyer in the New York case, has said in court that the NYPD did not recover any bong from outside the actress' window after the alleged incident. Her next court date on the charges is July 9.

Bynes was charged with a DUI and two counts of hit-and-run last summer. Since then, her increasingly bizarre behavior - in public and online - has led to supporters calling for her to get help. She has frequently lashed out at those people through social media.
