'Bachelorette' Desiree Hartsock: 5 Things You Don't Know
On Monday night, L.A. bridal stylist Desiree Hartsock will make her debut on this season of "The Bachelorette." On the ABC reality show, the 27-year-0ld will travel the world, going on extravagant dates and allowing millions of viewers to watch as she-hopefully!-falls in love with one of her 25 suitors.
And though the Northglenn, Colo., native opened up about herself on last season of "The Bachelor" ( Sean Lowe eliminated her after the hometown dates), she shared with ABC News a few things you might not know about her.
- I play volleyball: I've loved volleyball every since middle school. I played volleyball for seven years and during my senior year I coached a younger class. I love the sport. Now, I play once every great moon on the beach, but I think I'm going to join a league. I wish I played more.
- I love to read: I like things that are based on a true story or have an inspirational message, but I don't think I have a favorite book. My favorite book is whatever I'm reading at the time! I take some time out before bed to read or I'll take a book to the beach, but I read magazines too. I get bridal magazines because they're inspirational for what I want to do, and fashion magazines, but not really gossip. Sometimes they're fun to read but for the most part, you take them with a grain of salt.
- I write poetry: I started writing about four years ago. I write whatever comes to me, but [these days], it's tough to find the time. I love writing cute things for cards and little poems for my for my friends that are funny and witty. It's fun.
- I'm allergic to bee stings: I'm allergic to all stings. I swell up a lot! Last season on "The Bachelor" when we were in St. Croix, I got stung by a sea urchin and my whole foot was gigantic and gross. It was honestly the worst pain ever because to get the stings out and they had to put my foot in hot water and vinegar. I had to go to the doctor in St. Croix and get a Benadryl shot, so I slept the whole next day and then had to go on a group date. I ended up getting a huge blister on the top of my foot-I was miserable. But I was glad it didn't happen to anyone else because I could handle the pain. If it had been Tiara? Oh my God, she would have had a helicopter fly in!
- I want to learn how to surf: I boogie board, but I think it would be so liberating to be out in the water and catch a wave. I love the ocean, I love the beach-that's why I live in Santa Monica. I am afraid of sharks, like, not knowing what's underneath of you-I think that's the scariest-but I like things that are challenging. I wouldn't give up until I got a wave.
