Why You Should Know Bonnie McKee
Can't get the Katy Perry pop hit "California Gurls" out of your head?
You have Bonnie McKee to thank for that. If you're saying, "Bonnie who?" you're not alone, for now.
McKee, 28, is the songwriting genius behind the hits you can't stop humming, including Perry's "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream," Britney Spears' "Hold it Against Me," Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Turn Me Up."
McKee is now stepping out from behind the song pages with her own single, "American Girl," her first, and she has called in her A-list friends to help.
The video for the single, part of McKee's upcoming debut album, contains cameos from no less than 10 of McKee's music protégés - including Perry, Jepsen, Cruz, Adam Lambert and K$ha - and some surprising guest stars.
If you're one of the nearly 400,000 people who has watched the video since its Wednesday launch, your eyes were not mistaken if you also saw Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin and "Star Trek" star George Takei dancing along to the high-energy single.
Members of the band KISS, former "Pussycat Doll" Nicole Scherzinger and singers Macklemore, Karmin, Jewel, and Jason Derulo also pop up in the video, proving it helps to have friends in high places.
