Avril Lavigne Calls Wedding to Chad Kroeger 'an Experience of a Lifetime'
By MICHAEL ROTHMAN
In true rock star fashion, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger were married in the south of France Monday, capping off a three-day celebration for more than 100 of their loved ones.
"I wanted to make sure it's a crazy vacation and an experience of a lifetime for our guests," Lavigne, 28, told Hello! magazine.
The Nickelback singer, 38, and Lavigne, who are both Canadian, chose the day - Canada Day - because it marks a year of dating.
"It felt like fate was intervening," Kroeger told the magazine of meeting Lavigne after working with her on her fifth studio album, "Here's to Never Growing Up." "I was being given this wake-up call: Don't let this one get away."
Six months later, he proposed.
For the big day, which was held at Chateau de Napoule, a medieval castle near Cannes, Lavigne, who admitted that she planned most of the wedding herself, wore a black tulle Monique Lhuillier gown, in keeping with her punk persona.
"When you've got that ring on your finger that you get to look at every single day, and you get to call that other person husband or wife, it's a really special feeling," Kroeger said of the nuptials.
"We hope to be together forever," added his bride. "One day down the road we'll have a family. I look forward to growing with Chad."
This is Kroeger's first marriage and the second for Lavigne, who was married to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2009.
