"American Idol" winner Kris Allen can add a new title: Dad.

"Happy day!!!! My little stud was born today. Oliver is here people," the singer tweeted just after midnight Tuesday.

The 28-year-old singer welcomed a baby boy with his wife, Katy O'Connell, earlier Tuesday.

"Oliver Neil Allen was born yesterday weighing 7lbs 7oz and at 20 3/4 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great," Allen's rep told ABCNews.com.

The season-eight winner first broke the news about his wife's pregnancy in January when he was injured in a car accident.

"Thank you, Ford, for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family and the little one we have on the way safe," he tweeted. "Yes, I got in a really bad wreck tonight, and yes, I'm having a lil baby."

Allen shattered his wrist in the accident and required three surgeries but he still plans on making music.

"I will be fine," he said in a letter to fans on his website. "After everything is healed I will be able to play guitar. I will be able to play piano. I will be able to throw a baseball with my kid. I will be able to do the things that I love to do. Just not a proper push-up."

He gushed in March about becoming a father at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

"I've always wanted to be a dad… [Katy has] already started buying him clothes like mine. He's already got some [fedoras]."

Oliver is the first child for the former high school sweethearts who married in 2008.
