After being together for 42 years, Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner don't need a piece of paper to validate their relationship.

But the "Nine to Five" actress told E! News on Monday night that with the recent Supreme Court rulings on DOMA and Prop 8, maybe tying the knot isn't out of the question.

"We're thinking maybe we'll get married," she told E!

Tomlin, 73, admitted that she never thought same-sex marriage would be legal in her lifetime.

The actress added that marriage isn't absolutely necessary in her case, but it would be "awfully nice."

"Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference," she said. "They feel very very happy about it."
