Country star Randy Travis, who was hospitalized last month with a heart condition and then had a stroke, has been relocated to a physical therapy facility.

Travis, 54, was originally listed in critical condition for complications from a viral cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes the heart to become "enlarged, thick or rigid," according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. A few days later, he had a heart device implanted.

However, things took a frightening turn a day or so later, when the singer had a stroke and underwent brain surgery.

"As a result of his heart condition, acutely, and the stroke, he was put on a ventilator to help him breathe during his hospitalization. He remains on that, but we are decreasing that support daily," his physician said. "He is awake and alert, interacting with his family and friends and beginning to start doing some early physical therapy."
