The final 12 contestants were announced on Thursday night’s edition of “The Voice.” The singers were either saved by viewer votes or their coach’s intervention. Here’s a recap:
Team Blake kicked off the show with a cover of The Edgar Winter Group’s “Free Ride,” and after the performance, host Carson Daly announced that America had voted to save the team’s Austin Jenckes and Cole Vosbury. After that, Blake Shelton saved Ray Bourdreaux, a decision based on his gut, and a feeling he could “have the most success” with the artist. The decision meant Nic Hawk and Shelbie Z were eliminated.
Team Cee Lo performed Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit” before it was announced that America had voted to save Caroline Pennell and Jonny Gray. Cee Lo Green said it was a difficult decision, but saved Kat Robichaud, meaning Amber Nicole and Tamara Chaunice were eliminated.
Team Christina performed Maroon 5′s “Love Somebody” before it was announced that viewers saved Jacquie Lee and Matthew Schuler. After a rambling explanation/apology to the others, Christina Aguilera opted to save Josh Logan. “I love each and every one of you, but I have to go where my heart is invested right now,” Christina said, offering to keep in touch to offer support to Stephanie Ann Johnson and Olivia Henken, who were eliminated.
Team Adam performed Capital Cities “Safe and Sound” before Daly announced that voters had saved both James Wolpert and Tessanne Chin. “This is going to be maybe surprising, I don’t know,” Adam Levine said. “You guys are all incredible,” the judge said, before yelling “Oh, God,” and choosing Will Champlin to round out the final 12. The choice meant Preston Pohl and Grey were eliminated.
“The Voice” returns next Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
