It was a weekend of Twitter mishaps.

Steve Martin is the latest person to apologize for a tweet misfire.

On Friday night, the actor tweeted to his followers that they should "submit your grammar here," and one user asked, "Is this how you spell lasonia?" Martin responded, "It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?"

Shortly thereafter, Martin deleted the tweet.

But his fans lashed out, prompting the "Father of the Bride" star to apologize.

"I did apologize," he wrote, reminding readers that he deleted the tweet quickly. "But again, a second later, I realized what an offensive thing I'd done. Deep bow."

"My tweet was highly inappropriate," he added.
