Mary J. Blige's Father Stabbed in Domestic Dispute, Police Say
The father of singer Mary J. Blige was stabbed and critically injured in a domestic dispute, police in Michigan said.
The incident happened Thursday morning inside the home of Thomas Blige, 63, the dad of the Grammy-winning singer, the Battle Creek Enquirer reports.
Police described the injury as a neck wound. He was taken to Kalamazoo's Bronson Methodist Hospital, which says it has no information on his condition. Detective Sgt. Jim Martens tells the Battle Creek Enquirer that officers recovered a knife and found Thomas Blige's ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothing.
The ex-girlfriend is in the Calhoun County Jail and is expected to be arraigned today.
The "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul" has openly talked about her upbringing and rise from poverty. According to a 2006 interview with Oprah Magazine, Mary's father abandoned the family when she was 4 years old. She was sexually violated by a male caretaker the following year.
Mary J. Blige has not commented on the incident. She is nominated for an award at Sunday's 56th Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with rap artist Kendrick Lamar.
