It looks like Dallas really has danced his last dance.

That is, Matthew McConaughey, who played male stripper Dallas in the sleeper hit, " Magic Mike," won't be reprising his role for the sequel.

Director Greg Jacobs, who takes over the helm for "Magic Mike XXL" from Steven Soderbergh, confirmed the news to Indiewire on Wednesday.

Though Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello will be back, Jacobs is promising a "very different" movie than the first one.

"It's a road trip movie," Jacobs told Indiewire, "and put it this way, it's different enough that once you see it you'll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice."

Shooting has already begun on the sequel, which is scheduled for release July 1, 2015.

While co-writing the script, Tatum hinted at McConaughey's involvement earlier this year.

"What better way to start writing #MagicMike2 than with my old friend Dallas? #runatribe," he captioned an Instagram photo of himself wearing a fedora and holding a notepad, while gazing at a bust of his co-star.

After picking up an Oscar earlier this year, McConaughey is set to star in Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar."
