Today our "Instant Index" kicked off with 14 baby pandas at the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base in southwestern China because they're adorable.

In other animal news this week, a trio of whales was spotted on a late summer getaway off Queens, N.Y.

Meanwhile, on a Turkish beach, Fido played fetch with family on vacation. But when the mom took her eyes off her baby, it was the family dog that raced to the rescue, stopping the youngster from going into the ocean.

There was a heartwarming reunion on the football field at the University of Wisconsin. Bella Lund, 13, thought that her mom was still in Afghanistan and that she was just attending a ceremony to honor service families. But she got a surprise when her mother, whom she hadn't seen in six months, showed up at the event.

Comedian TJ Smith sprinkled some light relief to the chaos of Los Angeles' freeways. He held a drive-time sing-along for all those commuters cocooned in their cars.
