Thieves Crash Jeep Into Ga. Store in Hair Raising Theft
Forget robbing the bank. These days, the big money is in beauty salons and their stash of human hair extensions.
The most recent heist occurred this morning when thieves crashed a Jeep into Angies Beauty Supplies in Atlanta. Hair raising video showed the culprits head straight for the shop’s most expensive tresses, ABC Affiliate WSBTV reported
“The suspects took an undetermined amount of hair extensions and other items prior to leaving the store,” said Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones. The thieves left the Jeep in the store.
“The suspects left the scene in a dark colored minivan,” Jones said.
This is the second time in four months that Angies has been the victim of a smash and grab for hair extensions.
Atlanta police say they’ve seen a rise in robberies at hair salons and beauty supply shops.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that last week that thieves stole $50,000 in hair extensions from a beauty supply store.
The rash of hair extension smash and grabs is a national problem. People on the quest for cascades if hair similar to Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson have flocked to human hair extensions. Thieves have taken notice and turned black market hair extensions into a booming business.
In May of this year, a Houston beauty salon was robbed of $150,000 worth of locks.
In Michigan, a beauty shop owner who sold human hair extensions was killed during a March robbery.
