100 Arrested at Occupy Boston Protest; 1 Arrest in Chicago
Approximately 100 demonstrators gathered as part of the Occupy Boston protest were arrested early Tuesday when they moved into an area outside of the designated space, according to Boston police.
Police said that the protested moved from an area of Dewey Square to another section of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway near Pearl Street near downtown Boston. Officers say they repeatedly warned the protesters they would be arrested if they moved to the new section of the Greenway because they did not have permission to be there.
The protesters will likely be charged with trespassing, according to Boston Police, who added that for safety reasons they could not say how many officers were at the scene.
Since beginning the “Occupy Boston protests have not led to the violence or mass arrests similar to what was seen in New York last week, with police swinging batons and acting aggressively toward the protesters.
Still, the Occupy Boston organization insists police are being violent and dragging protesters away.
“Eye witness reports have come in stating that police dealt violently with members of Veterans for Peace who had come to support Occupy Boston. Other reports are still coming in regarding other instances of police brutality, but remain unconfirmed,” a posting on the group’s website said.
The Occupy Wall St. movement is now officially in its fifth week, and protests have spread to 150 U.S. cities and into parts of Europe. The Occupy Boston group began loosely organizing in late September and has scheduled several demonstrations and protests, and has planned assembly meetings every day throughout October.
There was one arrest made related to the Occupy Chicago protests on Monday for battery to a police officer. And there were 24 administrative notices, or violations issued for pedestrians to exercise due care in a roadway, according to Chicago police officer Daryl Baety.
ABC News’ Whitney Lloyd and Susanna Kim contributed to this report.

It is time for tanks to roll, rubber bullets to be fired, and tear gas. Clean out these nests of anti-American vipers before they pollute our cities more than they have with this nonsense.

It would be helpful to readers to question what a spokesperson means byt the term, “brutality.” Were they clubbed without provocation. Were they dragged away after refusing to act on an order to leave a “sit-in.”

NY City is going to cut their budget $2 bil. “Protesters” have already cost the city $1.2 mil just in police overtime. How much is it going to cost to clean the place? These folks may actually get a little more sympathy if they pitched their tents at the source of most of our problems..PA Ave. We have SolyndraGate, running guns to the Mexican drug cartels, EPA costing millions in stupid regs (next month we get to see if their proposal to regulate farm dust is approved…that’s correct..regulating farm dust), etc, and we are supposed to be worried about Wall St (who, by the way, contributed far more money in 2008 to OB and the Dems than they did to anyone else).

Are you serious ‘MARYANDBOBFL’?? Although not united on all issues due to lack of knowledge, it is our constitutional right to protest our government should it become tyrannical….and this government has become tyrannical. The PRIVATE Federal Reserve is the root of all ills in this country. Even the ex TARP Inspector General, Neil Barofsky, admitted that the banker bailout would eventually amount to 24 trillion dollars….that’s $80,000 for every American citizen! Both Obama and McCain voted for the fraudulent, unconstitutional, and anti-American bailout….both Obama and McCain (like much of congress) received millions in campaign contributions from Wall Street banks. The banks have controlled our monetary policy for nearly 100 years. And one is a fool not to see that they have controlled most of Congress with the exception of Kucinich (D) and Paul (R) for decades. Americans need to wake up and abolish The Federal Reserve and return control this country back to the citizenry. I don’t know about you MARYANDBOBFL, but I want my freakin’ $80,000!! It’s my money they’ve stolen! If you want to give them your share, be a brainwashed fool and do so!!

maryandbob…Pray that this never happens. If it did, I can assure you that whatever your comfort level may now be will be severely rocked. These are NOT anti-Americans, they are as American as you are, maybe even more so. These people are protesting the abuse, obscene greed, and destruction of millions of American lives. Every increase, every fee and charge by banks, insurance companies, and corporations that ship job overseas are some of the reasons why they protest. The average American salary has been stagnent for over 10 years, while CEOs, and the rich have seen their income increase 5 fold. That is obscene and cannot stand in a free society. Hope to high hell that tanks don’t roll or that protesters are not fired upon. That will not only end the existence of Wall Street and banks as we know it, but will end the existence of America as we know it too. That includes YOUR way of life. Tanks and Bullets have never solved a single problem against it’s people, but in fact caused the demise of those in charge of “tanks and bullets”. See history lessons and learn.

These unorganized, uninformed, and unpatriotic mobs are a joke. Go home and strive to lead productive lives instead of demanding the Government and those who have strived to make something of themselves to pay your way. Just a bunch of left-wing wannabe 60′s activist smelling up our streets and wasting taxpayers money.

Are they in line for a big golden parachute. I am a Korean war vet and every war since then has been promoted by a series of lies and deciet. America’s rulers wanted to rule the world as long as the burger flippers and the rest of the 99% paid for it. That is and will be changed.

Man, are YOU misinformed!
NOBODY is against protesting and speaking their minds. These protesters were only arrested because they violated the law as they protested. The members of the Tea Party did not get arrested because they did not violate the law.
YOUR party went as far as to blame the Tea Party for the shooting of Gabriell Giffords because they spoke their minds at a protest. According to your party, whenever Republicans are allowed to speak there is a shooting. Whenever YOU are allowed to speak there is peace. Just who is the facist, Secondlook?

Bob, are you kidding?!!? Ron Paul has attempted to abolish/audit the private and unconstitutional Federal Reserve for 30 years!! Why has congress (both democrats and republicans) repeatedly voted against these bills?? The answer lies in campaign contributions….they get to keep what they don’t spend and the banks love to contribute to both parties!! Both Obama and McCain received millions from Wall Street banks and both voted for the illegal banker bailout! Are you that clueless?? Both Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul have attacked The Federal Reserve. And since Bernie is not running, our only hope is for the man who has never wavered in over 30 years…the man who has always voted against the illegal wars and who has been steadfast in his effort to educate the brainwashed American public about the evil private Federal Reserve. I respect your support of Bernie Sanders as I think he along with Paul and Kucinich are the few that are not owned by the banks and transnational corporations. If you like Bernie Sanders, you should be supporting Paul. If you’re not, then you’re as brainwashed by the mainstream media as the idiots supporting Perry, Romney, Gingrich, Cain, Bachman, Santorum, or Huntsman. Do some research, Bob!!

MARYANNBOBFL: “It is time for tanks to roll, rubber bullets to be fired, and tear gas. Clean out these nests of anti-American vipers before they pollute our cities more than they have with this nonsense.”***
And this, folks, is the lock-step response of the “patriots” on the Right. You know, the same ones who’ve been supporting and/or participating in the “mobs” of Tea Partiers nationwide for the last few years.
Ironic, no? The shameless hypocrisy of the “New Right” is sickening.
What, exactly, were these people arrested FOR that would warrant tanks and tear gas? Vandalism? Violence? Disorderly behavior? Looting? Threatening people?
No. They were arrested for TRESPASSING because they moved from one PUBLIC, COMMON space to another, adjacent PUBLIC, COMMON space. They were “peacably assembling” and “petitioning their government for redress of grievances”; sound familiar to any of these Right-wing thugs now advocating the use of force to silence these people? Exercising their rights under the Bill of Rights and Constitution makes them “anti-American”? WOW. Just WOW.
Here in Portland, over 10 THOUSAND people showed up last Thursday and marched through downtown. No arrests and “few problems” according to police. But then, our city, being very LIBERAL, tends to respect the Constitutional rights of the people (as we did when a few hundred Tea Partiers gathered a while back).
Whether or not you AGREE with their views, if you don’t support their right to exercise their rights as Americans, YOU are the “anti-American viper”.

BCC-yeah, that really worked during the years starting in 2008 when we were hemorrhaging jobs at a rate of 500,000 a month and your illustrious leader, as an afterthought, said in a news conference on his way out the door, “Oh, by the way, we’re in a recession” after denying it for almost a year. No biggie. No skin off his nose, he just left it for someone else to clean up since he was no fan of McCains either.

Those posting anti-Republican or anti-Democrat comments need to see through the false left-right paradigm. The bankers/transnational corporate lobbyists own both sides. Just look at the state of the country….illegal wars…NAFTA….banker bailout. Stop supporting a Democratic Presidential candidate because he/she is a Democrat….stop supporting a Republican Presidential candidate because he/she is a Republican….both parties are owned by the same groups of the 1%….they love us bickering back and forth…they want us divided….they don’t care who you vote for as they own both candidates with the exception of Ron Paul and possibly Gary Johnson. Why do you think the mainstream media always labels Paul supporters as kooks?? Is it kooky to want to bring our troops home and stop the unconstitutional and illegal wars?? Is it kooky to want to abolish the unconstitutional and illegal privately owned Federal Reserve?? Please look beyond their lies and vote for the candidate that will stop the wars…..Obama promised he would but I knew he was owned by the bankers as evidenced by his vote for the banker bailout and receipt of millions of campaign contribution from Wall Street banks….the same with that boob, John McCain….start researching every candidate and do NOT let the mainstream media dictate who you should or should not vote for…..it is the only way this country will be saved from this fascist controlled government.
Posted by: TRUEPATRIOT | October 11, 2011, 11:03 am 11:03 am
As a person who has never voted in my life and have no desire to vote….Why? This gives me the ability to look at both sides. Something none of you can claim to do. You need to look at the big picture. Today, everything is caught on camera…..Comments are caught forever on the web. Don’t let your actions on the street and on the web hurt your chance of getting your next job.

Not even the FOX News commentators said the protesters did not have the right to protest.
The police warned the protesters not to trespass in certain areas. The protesters did, thereby violating the law. This is why there were arrests. The Tea Party did not trespass in restricted areas, therefore, there were no arrests.
As to FOX News, the protesters have the right to voice their political views, and the FOX News COMMENTATORS have the right to voice theirs.

“Those posting anti-Republican or anti-Democrat comments need to see through the false left-right paradigm. “*** As a progressive Independent, I long ago abandoned party loyalty. But there is, imo, an even more insidious paradigm being promoted currently; the “all of them are crooks/no difference between the two” meme.
Yes, there is some degree of corruption on both sides; it has become systemic due to the influence of MONEY in our system. Both parties have long refused to enact meaningful campaign finance reform, and NOW, the Right-leaning Supreme Court has declared corporations PEOPLE and money SPEECH and removed all limits on their influence in our elections (this makes no sense; the REASON a company incorporates is to protect itself/the PEOPLE involved from personal, legal and finacial liability! A corporation is NOT a person, quite the opposite).
But the fact remains, there ARE very clear and very real differences between the Democratic party and their positions and the Republicans and Tea Party.
The Tea Partiers and most Republicans insist that the richest few percent and large corporations are the “job creators” and advocate for tax cuts, subsidies, and other perks on their behalf.
The Democratic view is that small businesses and CONSUMERS are the job creators, and more consistently advocate for policies which put more money into THEIR hands.
One only has to look at the facts to see which position is closer to the truth: last month’s job report, for instance, revealed that SMALL BUSINESSES created over 60% of the 137,000 new private sector jobs created in September, and MID-SIZED businesses created the rest.
Big business/large corporations ELIMINATED 5,000 jobs! AND, the private sector gains were offset by the elimination of 35,000 GOVERNMENT/PUBLIC SECTOR jobs (as has been the case every month for a while…esp. following the Republican/Tea Party wins in the mid-terms, such cuts have been going on nationwide, off-setting the private sector gains and driving the unemployment rate up.That is NOT a coincidence…it is part of an orchestrated agenda to sabotage the recovery, which is currently in its 19th straight month of private sector job GROWTH.)
And a recent large survey of business owners/leaders found NO mention of regulation or taxation as issues limiting hiring or expansion. Lack of CUSTOMERS was the number one, by far, complaint, followed by the cost of INSURANCE (which under the Democratic reforms, would begin to be shifted to the public sector and away from the private, for-profit sector and save businesses TRILLIONS, allowing them to add more jobs, generating more REVENUES for the treasury AND more consumer spending, which creates still MORE jobs and so on, and so on).
But spreading the myth that there is essentially no difference between the left and the right serves to generate APATHY and a state of hopeless frustration and unfocused anger in the public. It DISTRACTS and DIVERTS them from effective action (like VOTING…and low voter turn-out benefits who? Almost always, the REPUBLICANS, which is why they have and are doing everything in their power to throw up barriers to voting, esp. for the poor and minorities. Lest we forget that Obama won by a landslide with the largest voter turn-out since 1910!).
And which interests stand to benefit most from REPUBLICAN policies on taxation, military spending/government contracts, de-regulation, union-busting, and corporate subsidies?
Hint: it’s not the mom and pop operation down the street, the working poor, unions, anyone working in the public sector (cops, teachers, firefighters), or the middle-class. You know, the OTHER 95-99% of us.
Another outcome of this view is that people turn to third party candidates, diverting their votes from electable candidates. I have long been a strong supporter of opening up the process to more candidates/parties and have frequently voted for them, but when it comes down to the REALITY of having either a Democrat or a Republican in the White House and the vote is likely to be close, you’d better believe the Democrat gets my vote.
So THIS Indie will be voting for Obama again. The alternative is simply unacceptable. There IS a difference.

Other protest groups, even those protesting the World Bank did not have to do these things and for some reason, they were able to get their point across. Their voices were still heard.
The more scuffles you have with police, the more unpopular your movement will become and more people will take sides with your opponents.
There is no substitute for common sense Bob. Maybe you should try it.

P.S. the forces behind all this couldn’t care less what our politics are. They are BUSINESSMEN/WOMEN and CORPORATIONS. They care about MONEY and getting as much of it as possible.
In other words, the Right-wing candidates most often represent their interests, but as far as all the social/religious issues that so engage many on the right, they could give a fig. They just want their taxes low/gone, labor costs dirt cheap, regulations weak or absent, as much in taxpayer subsidies/bail-outs/perks as they can get, a military to protect their global interests, and another decade of record-breaking profits.
Posted by: raven | October 11, 2011, 12:27 pm 12:27 pm
The politicians of today are nothing like they used to be. When this country was first founded we ran a government based on the elective volunteers who had the intention of the little guy in mind. They were known to retain a more than reputable “genius” about their wits. Now-a-days you’d be lucky to find a great politician who
1. Will work for free like they used to.
2. Will answer questions directly, accurately and sources their answers with proper info.
3. Has an IQ greater than the average “Joe.”
4. Doesn’t have millions of dollars of the American Public paying for their campaign adds.
5. Doesn’t have investments in a multi-million dollar corporately owned business.
6. Doesn’t argue debates like a child who just discovered lying.
7. Pass a bill that actually takes interest of the lower class/poor and doesn’t give leeway to the rich.
8….There’s so many that I can’t list them all; though they are all obvious if you’d open your eyes and ears to the right places. We are the ones who need help, yet the politicians of today give us none, but more mandatory schemes we must adhere to.

Which is why there are already people infiltrating this movement and encouraging such behavior.
BTW, I haven’t been following too closely, but exactly when and where did all these acts occur? This story makes no mention of such things, nor have any of the others I’ve seen thus far, anywhere. And the Occupy event here in Portland last week went off without a hitch, despite drawing over 10,000.
Are you seeing/hearing these reports on Fox and other Right-wing outlets/sources, perhaps?
