Homecoming Queen Kicks Winning Field Goal
Brianna Amat didn’t wear a sparkly gown when she was crowned homecoming queen. Instead, the Pinckney, Mich., high school senior wore her bulky No. 12 football uniform.
The senior, who had beaten two boys out for the position of kicker on the Pinckney Community High School football team, was sitting in the locker room at halftime during the school’s homecoming game. Although she was nominated for homecoming queen, Amat “just didn’t see it in her future,” said Jim Darga, the school’s principal. “Brianna is a very humble person.”
Little did Amat realize she was in for the night of her life. A note was passed to the team’s assistant coach, summoning Amat onto the field, where the surprised senior was crowned homecoming queen.
As if that wasn’t enough, Amat went on to perform a miracle for her school’s football team, kicking the game-winning 31 yard field goal, giving her team a 9-7 victory.
“To see Brianna kicking the field goal and knowing who she is on and off the field, it was such an awesome feeling,” Darga said.
Amat is not only a star kicker and homecoming queen, but she also takes Advanced Placement classes, volunteers with special needs students and serves as student body treasurer.
“It’s amazing how much she takes on and does so well,” said Darga.
Amat is hoping to attend Western Michigan University next year and study business and advertising.
