Amanda Knox’s Hometown Supporters Gather in Seattle

SEATTLE – On the 11th floor of a downtown Seattle hotel, a tireless group of Amanda Knox’s most loyal hometown supporters are essentially camped out. They sit with blankets and pillows, on couches, in front a television – constantly changing channels – anxious for the latest developments in a case that has become an obsession.

The small bunch, which has been here through the night, are the key members of a lobby group called Friends of Amanda.

“I would do anything to help these people,” said Karen Pruett, a friend of the family.

They gathered to watch the final moments of the appeal play out live around 1 a.m. in Knox’s hometown, Seattle, separated by a nine-hour time difference from Italy.

Many were in tears as Knox read her statement to the court.

“I thought they both did very well, spoke from the heart,” said Tom Wright, a family friend, referring to Knox and her co-defendant, Raffaele Sollecito.

The group has not only maintained a pro-Knox website in multiple languages throughout the ordeal, but they’ve raised roughly $100,000 as part of the Knox family’s defense fund. And they’ve rallied former police investigators and forensic specialists to help push through their view that Knox is innocent.

They say they’ll maintain their vigil until there is a verdict, and keep up their support even longer, if necessary.
