Moammar Gadhafi: Last Interview With Christiane Amanpour
In his last interview with a Western journalist, Moammar Gadhafi, the Libyan dictator reportedly captured and killed by insurgents today, told ABC News’ Christiane Amanpour he would not step down and that his people loved him.
“They love me. All my people with me, they love me,” he said in the Feb. 28 exclusive interview at the height of the uprising against him. “They will die to protect me, my people.”
The National Transition Council said Gadhafi was killed today in the town of Sirte, which finally fell to the rebels after weeks of fighting.
In the February interview, Gadhafi laughed when asked whether he would step down.
“Would anyone leave his homeland? Why would I leave Libya?” Gadhafi said.
