‘Gamer’ Husband Auctioned Off on Craigslist

Alyse Baddley, 21, hadn’t spent quality time with her husband, Kyle, in quite a while. Kyle was too engrossed in his game of “Modern Warfare” to notice. So Alyse cooked up a scheme to put the 22-year-old in his place: by selling him on Craigslist.
Alyse, frustrated by her husband’s unresponsive behavior, told her mother-in-law, “I’m going to sell your son on Craigslist.”
‘”She said, ‘Oh do it!” Alyse recalled in an interview with ABCNews.com.
So the two composed a message on the Logan, Utah, site offering to trade Kyle to a “good home.”
According to the advertisement, Kyle “enjoys eating and playing video games all day.” And he’s “easy to maintain, just feed and water every 3-5 hours,” the ad advised.
The bidder “must have Internet and space for gaming.” However, the Craigslist post noted, if “an acceptable replacement” was offered, Alyse would be willing to trade husbands with someone.
Alyse was surprised to receive a number for responses, mainly humorous messages from amused readers.
One woman offered to train Kyle and give him back. Another respondent, a man, wrote that he was already house-trained and would love to trade himself for Kyle, adding that he preferred reading books to playing video games.
But a few readers evidently took the ad more seriously, writing to Alyse that they were concerned about her relationship with Kyle.
Kyle’s father, Scott Baddley, said he sees no cause for concern. Kyle is not devoting as much time to “Modern Warfare” now, he said. In fact, the couple is on the way to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with Kyle’s sister.
Alyse and Kyle married in 2010, right before Kyle headed for Afghanistan to complete his military service.
“The ad was all just a joke, and I love my husband and he loves me,” Alyse said. “I didn’t ever think anyone would reply to this, but it’s gotten so much attention, which is kind of cool.”

Video game addiction is not funny and is more common than reported. Unless this couple gets rid of the game this marriage could be doomed. Take it from an Battle Field 3 video game addict.

he probably played video games just as much before marrying her so her fault for not truly knowing about her husband’s interests. i’d say it’s embarrassing for her she cant be more interesting to the poor guy he’s gotta resort to a reeeeeaaaallly monotonous game.

People are still getting married? How terribly stupid.

Kyle… Let’s hear her faults. Aside from the fact that she has no respect for you or your marriage.

This has to be the worst way to handle a problem in a marriage. This is going to come back to haunt her. She may view it as a joke but I wonder what she would think of an ad like “Free to good home 30 pounds of fat from my wife’s butt”. Just a joke right?

Just another woman being selfish. He’s not a good husband because he wants to play a video game. I see this kind of thing all the time. Only stupid people get married.

Imagine what he would have been like if played a real war fps game and not the kiddie version.
come on, get BF3, far superior to the childish fetish junk.

So if this were about the man auctioning off the woman for something like shopping, would it still be a cute joke?

Hey, Marc — did you see the part where he was deployed to Afghanistan? This guy played more of a “real war fps game” than you’ll ever come close to.

As soon as I read they were both in their early 20′s (hell, so am I), this wasn’t so surprising anymore.
I get the humor part, but they’re both still kids, whaddya expect Alyse?

Not to make too big a deal out of this but does anybody else think this story would get a completely different reaction if the man had played this “joke” on his wife? It sure seems like there is a double standard about things like this.

WOW… you are super serious repliers. Head over to Yahoo if you wanna reply to this story properly, with humor.
This couple will probably make it far. As a wife, with children, who gets annoyed to all ends when he dissapears to play a game (while the rest of us are having family time or cleaning the house), this is a genius way to not get mad, but make a point! Gaming is not the problem, prioritizing a game over your family is. If the game had been more important he would have been defensive and mad at the post. However, in this case it appears as though he realized he was acting like it was number one priority when in fact, his family is.
Lighten up America. Stop killing trees by constantly having a stick up your butt… ONE EARTH

I have a good sense of humor, and I agree that Kyle might need to lighten up on the video games a bit, but is public ridicule the best way to go about this? There is a STRICT double-standard when it comes to such “teasing”. Male on female, uh, you sexist creep. Female on male, ohhhh, silly, can’t you take a joke? If I had a nickel for every time I have heard a woman publicly tease a man for being short (that has got to be the number-one topic!), or not so bright, or not so suave with the ladies, or whatever, I would have several nickels. I have a friend whose wife will corner and tickle him in front of company, just for the spectacle. Yikes. Just my nickel’s worth.

You need to relax people this man realized he had his priorities wrong and this set him straight! it wasn’t a bad thing possibly a double standard but oh well! all of life is sexist or racsist if you see a boy or girl are you going to see them the same? no! its just the human mind. Also getting married is a very good thing! it shows some structure to our society that we’re not just animals and can progress also women need someone to provide for them the 9 months they can’t do anything relax people and don’t bash on a marriage because your jealous.

I know these people, Alyse is my cousin. She’s a sweet heart and the family adores Kyle. I think that if she knew posting Kyle up on Craigslist would get this much attention she wouldn’t of done it. It was a joke not in any way mean spirited. Alyse does respect her husband and he is the nicest guy anyone could meet. Don’t read so much into this story.. it was supposed to be funny that all!

As a wife who’s husband can play video game all day and all night, I can’t say I don’t know the feeling because I do. You’d start to feel neglected and abandoned. I hope her husband realized that he needs to spend more time with his wife and then video game. Thats all I can say.
