‘Good Friends’: Robin Roberts on ‘Trailblazer’ Pat Summitt
Reported by ABC News’ Robin Roberts:
The first time I met Pat Summitt was in 1987 after her Lady Vols won its first of eight NCAA National Championships.
At the time, I was a sports reporter for a local station in Nashville, Tenn. We’ve been good friends ever since. When I traveled to her Knoxville home to talk about her recent diagnosis of early-onset dementia, I felt many emotions.
Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect.
Pat greeted me with a big hug and an invitation to stay for dinner after the interview. That’s Pat.
She was very open with me about what she’s facing. Pat’s always been a trailblazer, never more so than now.
