Chicago Police Investigating Facebook Photo of Bound Child

Chicago Police are investigating a Facebook photo posted by Andre Curry, 21, of his daughter apparently bound with tape. (Photo credit: Facebook)
A photo posted on Facebook of a little girl’s arms and legs bound together by thick tape and her mouth covered has sparked a police investigation in Chicago.
The image was allegedly posted by the girl’s father, Andre Curry, 21, with the caption, “This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back ; )”
Mike Sullivan, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, said the incident is “still being investigated.”
Sullivan said the photo was brought to the police’s attention a few days ago when the media notified them even though it was posted in July.
Curry could not be reached for comment.
Curry has since taken the Facebook page down, said Sullivan, but police are trying to contact Facebook for a copy of the page. Sullivan said detectives have spoken to Curry, and that the investigation is ongoing.

To paraphrase the mental and moral midget this child is unfortunate enough to have for a father: “This is wut people think of wen they argue for forced sterilization ;)”

OMG…not only is what’s going on in the photo disturbing but the details of his wording are very telling. He didn’t write this is what happens when she hits me, he wrote this is what happens when she hits me back…so obviously he hits her first. Also, is that a younger child behind her? Are two lives in danger?

I have a screen shot of the FaceBook page. The comments following it are horrible. And yes, I’m contacting the Chicago Police.

Poor baby :(
I hope she is put into a home with a loving family. Every child deserves better than what she is obviously getting. What a hateful disgraceful man her father is.

I just called Chicago Police Department Special Victims Unit, Area 5, and told them that I had a screen shot of the FaceBook page. They said they don’t know anything about it or their spokesperson, Mike Sillivan, and hung up. Nice.

“I have a screen shot of the FaceBook page. The comments following it are horrible. And yes, I’m contacting the Chicago Police.”
Unfortunately, a screen shot isn’t admissible as evidence, as digital images can be easily doctored. Not saying that you did that, but that’s just how it is. But hope is not lost: Facebook will likely still have the page cached somewhere…and that IS admissible as evidence.

And how is this any different than a cop handcuffing and shackling your ankles?

Apparently Daddy thinks this is just “playing” with his child. To quote, “Curry’s friend, Je’Vanna Cobbins, told the Smoking Gun that he was just “playing around,” and would “never do anything to harm anyone.” She said: “Curry was being playful with his child. People play with their child differently.”
Uh Huh. And Holly, good call on his wording.

@americathepitiful… REALLY?? This child appears to be in a diaper or pull up, so she’s what, 2 or 3, maybe 4 at the oldest. You don’t see many toddlers in handcuffs and shackles.

AmericaThePitiful: We submit screen shots as defense evidence in criminal trials all the time. I work in a defense attorney’s office. The police also use them as evidence in poice reports and the Prosecutor uses them in Probable Cause Statements AND in trial. But Illinois laws may be different than Washington law.

Really, Kim? You have to ask? Here’s hoping you never procreate.

Besides the fear of being totally unable to free oneself, duct tape hurts the skin when it is pulled off. And putting it over someone’s mouth is very dangerous, if the nose becomes stuffy, which it frequently does when crying, the child could suffocate.
This isn’t a game, this is scary that a grown man would think this is appropriate to do to a child.

The Chicago police already have a copy of his web page. When I seen this posted online, it was just uploaded by mobile around 6 pm on Dec 13th. I had police at my house shortly after. My police department had get a picture of the page and emailed it to my local pd. They then had faxed it over to Chicago P.d. I am glad the citizens of Dubuque wouldn’t stop at making sure this man would have to stand for his actions. We called Police Departments, Child Protective Services and even emailed new stations. Glad that all that is finally paying off. Hopefully that child never has to go through that again! Jokingly or not, it’s still wrong!

This picture is horrible. This is child abuse and if he does this, I’m only wondering if this is a sneek preview into what else he has done to his child or any other children for that matter and taking a picture of it and posting it on a social media site is worse. I hope that this child has been removed from his custody and gone to family or friends who love, care for, an treated as the precious child that she is. No one deserves this to happen to them. My prayers go out to her.

@Seattle: How do you have a screenshot and why did you not contact the police BEFORE the story broke?

Why are they not making it clear whether or not the children have been removed from the home?
