Christiane Amanpour Moves to New Role at ABC News as Global Affairs Anchor

George Stephanopoulos Will Anchor “This Week” In Addition to “Good Morning America” Starting Sunday Jan. 8

ABC News “This Week” anchor Christiane Amanpour is moving to an exciting new role in the news division as roving Global Affairs anchor across all ABC News platforms effective immediately.  Amanpour will report on foreign affairs for the network in primetime specials and on all ABC News broadcasts. Starting Sunday, Jan. 8, ”Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos will host “This Week” in addition to his weekday anchor role at “GMA.”

“This is an exciting and unique opportunity for me to take my love of storytelling to primetime at ABC News.  I am looking forward to getting back into the field to report stories on global issues that matter greatly to the American people.  This role is groundbreaking, bold and very different! I am thrilled and honored,” said Amanpour.

In addition to her prominent role at ABC News, Christiane will host a weekday show to air on CNN International.  Stephanopoulos moderated ABC News’ “This Week” from September 2002 to January 2010.

Christiane Amanpour was a poor fit for This Week from the beginning. I was disappointed that Jake Tapper did not succeed George Stephanopoulos last year, but I will definitely start watching more often now.

Thank gawd she is gone. My wife and I quit watching This Week because of her. I’ll have to check it out again.

Thank you ABC!!! George or Jake would be great in that role. Looking forward to tuning in again!

What ABC needs to do is get rid of the soft focus they have on Diane Sawyer on World News Tonight. Its friggin annoying. I have a 52″ HDTV and in split screen with another reporter she looks fuzzy. If you are going to have an older woman reporter, either you or her need to accept that gravity is no longer her friend.

I just couldn’t get into This Week with Christine. I’m glad George will be back and I hope he stays, at least until he moves to World News Tonight. I’ll be anxiously waiting for Jan 8.

I agree with most of the comments regarding Christiane on “This Week”. It really was a poor fit from the beginning and I never could understand why they just didn’t have Jake Tapper stay on as I thought he did a great job. Anyways, I’m really happy that George will take over again and I can’t wait to begin tuning in again on Jan 8th.

Love Christiane and wish her well in her new role.

Now I’m no ABC exec – but how’s this?

Scenario #1: George stays at GMA and Jake Tapper becomes permanent host of This Week. Jake is a smart, skilled journalist deserving of his own show.
Scenario #2: George hosts This Week. Jake remains Sr. White House correspondent, but Bill Weir moves off of Nightline and co-hosts GMA with Robin Roberts.

You must get Bill Weir out of that horrible timeslot. Does anyone really watch Nightline? Bill is a fabulous journalist with a great personality. Would love to see him on GMA!

Great news. I’ve missed George in the political facilitator position on Sundays. Christian will do well on the international front. When the elections role around George will be back in the saddle.

Cristianne was one of the least competent hosts for a news show ever. She always talked more than her guests and couldn’t frame a question in less than 2 minutes. Her leftest slant was everywhere. At least George tried ot hide it. Get her a job in accounting.

What took you so long to DUMP this left leaning person who didn’t hide it. I like to watch programs that don’t take sides and question all without political bias. George is an improvement but he’s no Tim Russert then again, neither is David Gregory.

I am so glad George is going back to This Week. i don’t think he is going to pull double duty ther and at GMA for long. He has in my opinion always looked awkward….out of place on GMA.
lara Spencer needs to go back to whatever entertainment channel she was on. Or she can be on GMA on a Friday to report entertainment news when everyone is getting ready for the weekend.
Bill Weir would be great on GMA during the week. He was once on the weekends. I don’t even watch Nightline anymore and i had no idea he was on there.

ABC LISTEN UP….if you want me to continue watching GMA …lets get that anhcor line up straightened up quickly because right now i watch it once in while

I enjoyed Ms. Amanpour’s This Week. Am glad I will be able to find her on another Network, but
look forward to her new role on ABC. She has deep insight into International and US politics.

I’m shocked by the comments of the majority of posts above. Most people I have talked with agree with me that, although it took some time to get used to Christiane Amanpour, she ended up having the most interesting and the most informative morning Sunday show on network television. You got the feeling that you had a good perspective on what was happening in the world –not just in American politics. I understand why Amanpour is such a respected journalist and I’m sorry to see her go.

I think it’s disgraceful that ABC pulled her from the anchor position. I believe the network decided that she was too confrontational, too truthful, and that American viewers had no interest in foreign affairs.

I think the later is the most truthful and the most damning.

To replace her with GS and/orJT is an indication that ABC is moving right because it’s scared of peoples responses who are of the right.

I’ll never watch this show again.

ABC News is a worthless organization.

I can’t believe Christiane is leaving This Week! Alot of prejudicial comments here related to women. Americans are often very parochial. I will no longer watch This Week as George puts me to sleep. Speaking about a poor fit: that would be George and GMA.

There is also one more technique to increase traffic for your blog that is link exchange, so you also try it Link exchange is nothing else but it is only placing the other person’s blog link on your page at proper place and other person will also do same for you.

Christianne’s role at This Week was a mind expanding experience. The format of the show was much improved and she dug deeper into the subject matter. Not as much frou frou time, which to me was intolerable mixed in with loads of commercials. I watched George S., weekly and never missed a show with Christianne. Why can’t we ever just raise the bar ABC? Jonathan Karl provides the humorous side of politics, Jay Tapper joins in with experienced insightful reporting, George and Christianne share the lead or become a team. You TV execs make me crazy.
