For the 12th Consecutive Week, “GMA” Cuts Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with “Today” Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date

"GMA" Only Morning Program to Grow Year-to-Year in Total Viewers and Demo

 

 ABC News' "Good Morning America" drew 4.868 Total Viewers and 1.5/11/1.864 million Adults 25-54 for the week of December 5, 2011.  "GMA" posted gains on the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%), extending its year-over-year increases this season to 12 of 12 weeks.  In addition, "GMA" was the only morning newscast to grow year to year in either overall viewers or in the key adult news demo (NBC's "Today" was flat and down -9%, respectively; CBS' "Early Show" was down -11% and -15%, respectively).    

 

For the 12th time in 12 weeks of the season, "GMA" decreased its margins year to year with "Today" in both Total Viewers (-22% - 767,000 vs. 979,000) and in Adults 25-54 (-39% - 567,000 vs. 931,000).   Season to date, "GMA" narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewers (-40%) and Adults 25-54 (-38%) versus its year-ago season gaps, posting its smallest margins (569,000 and 497,000, respectively) with "Today" in 4 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"GMA" topped CBS' "Early Show" by 2.103 million Total Viewers (4.868 million vs. 2.765 million) and by 774,000 Adults 25-54 (1.864 million vs. 1.090 million) .

 

Season to date "GMA" is up the most among network morning news programs in Viewers (+10%), and is the only morning program to grow in Adults 25-54 (+11%) versus year-ago averages (NBC's "Today" is up +1% and down -5%, respectively; CBS' "Early Show" is down -8% and -10%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in 4 years, since the 2007-08 Season.
