Year-to-Year, ABC Slashes Total Viewer Gap with NBC by 37% and Demo Gap by 23%

"ABC World News" was the #1 Evening Newscast Among Total Viewers on Monday

For the week of January 2, 2012, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.97 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/6 share/2.10 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.

On Monday (1/2/12), "ABC World News" stood as the #1 evening newscast among Total Viewers, outperforming "NBC Nightly News" by 560,000 viewers (8.18 million vs. 7.62 million) .

Compared to the same week last year, "World News" cut its gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits among both Total Viewers (-37% - 930,000 vs. 1.49 million) and Adults 25-54 (-23% - 464,000 vs. 606,000), representing the 9th time in the last 10 weeks in Total Viewers and the 10th week in a row among Adults 25-54 that "World News" has narrowed its year-ago margins with the NBC program.

"World News" has cut its season-to-date gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-20%) and Adults 25-54 (-25%), posting its smallest news demo margin (323,000) with the NBC program in 3 years - since the 2008-09 season.

"ABC World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 1.32 million Total Viewers and by 89,000 Adults 25-54.

Note : "CBS Evening News" was coded a special on Mon 1/2/12 and ratings were excluded from the average. "ABC World News" and "NBC Nightly News" are based on a 5 day average.

"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" airs at 6:30 p.m., (ET) on the ABC Television Network.  Michael Corn is the executive producer of the broadcast.
