"GMA" is Posting its Smallest Total Viewer and Adults 25-54 Margins with "Today" in 16 Years, Season to Date

ABC News' "Good Morning America" drew 5.168 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/12 share/2.054 million Adults 25-54 for the week of April 30, 2012. For the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, "GMA" improved on its year-ago week performance in both Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%) - 5.136 million and 1.960 million, respectively, on w/o 5/2/11 . In addition, "GMA" grew the most year-to-year in among the network morning newscasts in both measures (NBC's "Today:" -12%/-18%; CBS' "This Morning:" up less than +1%/-3%). Additionally, Goodmorningamerica.com has expanded its lead and in April, had 17 million more unique users than Today.com.
On Tuesday (5/1/12) "GMA" ranked as the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers, beating "Today" by +244,000 (5.479 million vs. 5.235 million).
Year-to-year "GMA" substantially reduced its Total Viewer margin with "Today" by -91% to only 76,000 (vs. 821,000 on w/o 5/2/11). In addition, slashed its Adults 25-54 gap by more than two-thirds (-73% - 214,000 vs. 791,000). In fact, "GMA" has cut its year-to-year Adults 25-54 margin with the NBC program by double-digits for the 18th straight week and in 32 of 33 weeks this season.
Season to date, "GMA" narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewers (-45%) and Adults 25-54 (-45%) versus its year-ago season gaps. In fact "GMA" is posting its smallest Total Viewer (440,000) and Adults 25-54 (412,000) margins with "Today" in 16 years - since the 1995-96 Season.
"GMA" outperformed "CBS This Morning" by 93% in Total Viewers (5.168 million vs. 2.682 million) and by 92% in Adults 25-54 (2.054 million vs. 1.068 million).
Season to date "GMA" is the only morning program to grow in Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+8%) versus its year-ago averages (NBC's "Today:" -3%/-8%, respectively; CBS' "This Morning:" -8%/-10%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in 6 years, since 2005-06.
