"GMA" is Posting its Smallest Total Viewer and Adults 25-54 Margins with "Today" in 16 Years, Season to Date
"GMA Saturday" Ranked #1 in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 on June 2 nd, Marking Strongest Performance in 3 Months
ABC News' "Good Morning America" drew 4.671 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/11 share/1.801 million Adults 25-54 for the week of May 28, 2012. "GMA" trailed "Today" (4.840 million) during the week by only -169,000 Total Viewers.
"GMA" improved on the year-ago week (4.617 million and 1.787 million on w/o 5/30/11) in both Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 25-54 (+1%), growing year-to-year in the key adult demo for the 5th week in a row. Additionally, "GMA" stood as the only network morning newscast to grow from the same week last year (NBC's "Today:" -8%/-12%; "CBS This Morning:" -5%/-6%) .
"GMA" slashed its year-to-year margins with "Today" by three-quarters in Total Viewers (-74% 169,000 vs. 650,000) and by half in Adults 25-54 (-50% - 311,000 vs. 623,000) . "GMA" has cut its year-ago week demo gap with the NBC program by double-digits for 22 weeks in a row, and in 36 of 37 weeks this season.
On Thursday (5/31/12), "GMA" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers, defeating NBC's "Today" by +76,000 (4.854 million vs. 4.775 million).
Season to date, "GMA" has cut its gaps versus "Today" in half in both Total Viewers (-51%) and Adults 25-54 (-48%) versus its year-ago season gaps. In fact "GMA" is posting its smallest Total Viewer (395,000) and Adults 25-54 (390,000) margins with "Today" in 16 years - since the 1995-96 Season.
Season to date "GMA" is the only morning program to grow in Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%) versus its year-ago averages (NBC's "Today:" -4%/-9%, respectively; CBS' "This Morning:" -8%/-10%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in 6 years, since 2005-06.
"GMA" outperformed the "CBS This Morning" by triple-digits for the 3rd week in a row in both Total Viewers (+100% - 4.671 million vs. 2.335 million) and Adults 25-54 (+102% - 1.801 million vs. 891,000).
On June 2, 2012, "Good Morning, America Saturday" ranked No. 1 in both Total Viewers (3.570 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.327 million) with its strongest performance in nearly 3 months - since 3/10/12. In addition, "GMA Saturday" has ranked No. 1 in the key adult news demo for 5 straight weeks and in 7 of the last 8.
