Baby Attacked by Python Turns 1
An Illinois baby celebrated his first birthday today, just days after he was attacked by a neighbor's python while resting in his crib.
William Winans was treated for bites and bruise marks and is doing well, said his father, Devin Winans.
"If the snake had wrapped around his neck, honestly, we probably would not be having his birthday today," Winans said.
On Monday evening, Winans said he heard his son crying and went to check on him. When Winans reached into William's crib he said he felt something "slimy."
"I immediately turned the light on and saw the snake, a ball python wrapped around his foot, constricting it and trying to eat his foot," Winans said.
Winans used a blanket to remove the snake from his son's foot and turned the animal over to the Coles County Animal Shelter.
Police determined the reptile somehow slithered away from its home next door and issued its owner a citation.
William Winans, and the snake, are both said to be doing fine.
