ABC News Docu-series Delivers 5.4 Million Viewers and 2.1 Million Adults 25-54 with Tuesday Premiere to Stand as Most Watch Broadcast in 10 PM Timeslot
“NY Med” Jumps 2.3 Million Over its Lead-in on Tuesday Night
The series debut of ABC’s “NY Med” delivered 5.41 million Total Viewers and 2.10 million Adults 25-54 to rank No. 1 in its 10 o’clock time period, according to Nielsen Media Research.
“NY Med” built sharply on its lead-in among both Total Viewers (+2.3 million) and Adults 25-54 (+31%). The new ABC News series outdrew CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery by 8% and NBC’s Love in the Wild by 23%. In addition, NY Med outperformed its CBS and NBC competition in the key news demo by 13% and 6% in the hour, respectively.
The ABC News documentary series greatly improved over original series programming in the time slot on the year-ago night (“Combat Hospital”) by 46% in Total Viewers, 42% in Adults 25-54 and 50% in Adults 18-49. In addition, the first hour of “NY Med” outperformed the 2010 premiere of “Boston Med” by +6% among Total Viewers.
For a full year ABC News cameras had unprecedented access to document the mayhem and the miracles that occur daily inside the walls of Columbia and Weill Cornell Medical Centers, the crown jewels of the prestigious New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City for an eight-part series “NY Med“. Lutheran Medical Center also participated, adding a Brooklyn dimension to the series. The eight-part series takes a candid look at how cutting edge medicine often makes the difference, although even the best surgeons can find themselves flirting with disaster.
Terence Wrong is the executive producer of “NY Med.” Erica Baumgart and Chris Perera are the supervising producers. Monica DelaRosa is the series producer and Andrew Genovese is the broadcast producer.
