Ratings: “ABC World News” Ranks As Most-Watched Newscast Among Adults 25-54 on Friday

“ABC World News” Cuts Gaps Among Both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, Year-to-Year

Three Weeks Into New Season, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” Narrows Total Viewing Gap with “NBC Nightly News” by 46% and Demo Gap by 5% Compared to Previous Year

For the week of October 8, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.22 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.81 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.

On Friday (10/12/12), “World News” finished as the #1 newscast in Adults 25-54, beating “NBC Nightly News” by +22,000 demo viewers (1.604 million vs. 1.582 million).

“World News” cut its margins with “NBC Nightly News” compared to the year-ago week in both Total Viewer (-2% – 499,000 vs. 510,000) and Adults 25-54 (-14% – 225,000 vs. 262,000)In fact, “World News” has narrowed its year-to-year gaps with the NBC newscast in 7 of the last 8 weeks.

“World News” decreased its week-to-week demo gap with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-16% – 225,000 vs. 269,000).   

Three weeks into the 2012-13 season, “World News” has narrowed its gaps with “NBC Nightly News” among both Total Viewers (-46%) and Adults 25-54 (-5%).  “World News” is posting its smallest Total Viewer (320,000) and news demo (227,000) margins with the NBC program in 4 years- since the 2008-09 season.

“ABC World News” beat the “CBS Evening News”by 1.17 million Total Viewers and 42,000 Adults 25-54.

NOTE: On Thursday, “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS-Evening-Nws” due to the Vice-Presidential Debate. CBS’ averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
