Grandfather Models Girl Clothing Line, Becomes Internet Sensation
Liu Xianping is clearly not your average grandfather basking in retirement, doing crossword puzzles while wearing frumpy old sweater vests.
Xianping, 72, has become an Internet sensation modeling for his granddaughter's clothing line aimed at teen girls in China.
Xianping's granddaughter started the fashion store, Yuekou, with four college friends. Since the advertising campaign went viral, sales have increased five-fold thanks to Xianping' sassy, hand-on-hip poses, according to The Daily Mail.
But this success story and potential modeling career was not conceived by marketing experts. Xianping's granddaughter told Chinese Newsweek his modeling career started by accident when he picked up a piece of clothing and tried to give them advice on how to mix and match.
Xianping is now at the center of their advertising campaign donning knee-high stockings, bright pink dresses, green tights, women's jackets and other girly accessories. In some shoots, Xianping poses with a brown wig showing great poise in front of the camera with his slender frame.
"Why unacceptable for someone like me to wear women's clothes? Modeling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose," Xianping told Chinese Newsweek.
The store's website also includes a photo of Xianping doing the "Gangnam Style" dance. Will Xianping follow in PSY's footsteps and become the next international sensation?
