"World News" the Only Evening Newscast to Grow Overall Audience Over Year-Ago Week - Delivers Smallest News Demo Gap with NBC in Six Weeks

On Wednesday "World News" Stands as #1 Newscast in Key News Demo

ABC Outperforms "CBS Evening News" by 1.33 Million Total Viewers and 175,000 Adults 25-54

For the week of January 14, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 8.54 million Total Viewers and a 1.9 rating/7 share/2.24 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Building on the previous week (8.49 million and 2.22 million for w/o 1/7/13) for the 2nd week in a row, "World News" once again saw its most-watched week in nearly 2 years - since w/o 2/7/11 (regular telecasts). "World News" also delivered in its 2nd-highest news demo number of the season (regular telecasts).

"World News" delivered the No. 1 telecast on Wednesday (1/16/13) in Adults 25-54, beating the NBC newscast by +51,000 demo viewers (2.478 million vs. 2.427 million).

For the 4th week in a row and for 7th time in the last 8 weeks, "World News" was up year-to-year in Total Viewers (+1% - 8.45 million on w/o 1/16/12). In addition, "World News" was the only evening newscast to grow its overall audience over the year-ago week as both "CBS Evening News" (-2%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-11%) lost viewers.

"World News" cut its week-to-week margins with "NBC Nightly News" by double digits in both Total Viewers (-24% - 625,000 vs. 822,000) and Adults 25-54 (-33% - 249,000 vs. 370,000). In fact, "World News" posted its smallest news demo gap with the NBC program in 6 weeks - since w/o 12/3/12.

"World News" slashed its year-to-year margins with "NBC Nightly News" by more than half among both Total Viewers (-65% - 625,000 vs. 1.80 million) and Adults 25-54 (-59% - 249,000 vs. 600,000).

Season-to-date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+2%, 7.98 million vs. 7.83 million) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 3 years - since the 2009-10 season. In addition, "World News" has narrowed its Total Viewer gap (-17%) with "NBC Nightly News" by double digits for the second year in a row to post its smallest gap (777,000) with the NBC program in 4 years- since the 2008-09 season.

For the week "ABC World News" outdrew "CBS Evening News" by 1.33 million Total Viewers and by 175,000 Adults 25-54.
