Three paratroopers at a military base in Washington state had to be rescued by firefighters Thursday afternoon after they got stuck in trees.

The paratroopers, all three members of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, were jumping from an airplane during a training mission when they got stuck in the heavily wooded area near their drop zone, a spokeswoman for Joint Base Lewis-McChord told ABCNews.com today.

The drop zone is located near the border of the town of Rainier so rescue officials from nearby Thurston County were the first to respond. They were later joined by firefighters from the base but the soldiers were up so high the fire truck's ladder could not reach them.

Rescue officials climbed the trees and used a pulley system to lower the three to safety, the spokeswoman said.

There were no injuries. Officials did not release a cause for the incident but did say that wind changes can cause the parachutes to drift off course.
