"World News" Narrows Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with "NBC Nightly News" to Smallest Level in Two Months - Closes Demo Gap for the 6th Consecutive Week

"World News" Slashes Total Viewing Gap with NBC by 36% and Demo Gap by 56%, Year-to-Year

For the week of May 27, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.10 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/7 share/1.81 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 2nd week in a row, "World News" posted year-to-year increases in both Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) - 6.94 million and 1.75 million on w/o 5/28/12. In addition, "World News" stood as the only evening newscast to improve on the year-ago week in both measures, as CBS' "Evening News" was mixed (+4%/-9%), while NBC's "Nightly News" posted losses (-2%/-9%)

"World News" aired the No. 1 telecast on Friday (5/31/13) in Adults 25-54, beating "NBC Nightly News" by +52,000 demo viewers (1.640 million vs. 1.588 million) .

"World News" narrowed its gaps week-to-week with "NBC Nightly News" among both Total Viewers (-14%, 593,000 vs. 692,000) and Adults 25-54 (-8%, 200,000 vs. 217,000), posting its closest performance with the NBC newscast in 2 months - since w/o 3/25/13. Further, "World News" narrowed its news demo gap with "Nightly News" in each of the last 6 weeks.

Year-to-year "World News" cut its margins with "NBC Nightly News" by strong double-digits among both Total Viewers (-36%, 593,000 vs. 925,000) and Adults 25-54 (-56%, 200,000 vs. 455,000).

Season-to-date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+3%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins with "NBC Nightly News" among both Total Viewers (-24%) and Adults 25-54 (-8%) to post its smallest margins in Total Viewers (785,000) and Adults 25-54 (322,000) with the NBC program in 4 years - since the 2008-09 season.

For the week, "World News" outperformed "CBS Evening News" by 1.04 million Total Viewers and by 257,000 Adults 25-54 .
