“Nightline” Ranks #1 in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54

“Nightline” Posts Strongest Week Ever in Adults 18-49 in New Time Period 

“Nightline” Posts Double-Digit Increases Week-to-Week in All Key Target Demos 

On Average in New Time Period, “Nightline” Continues to Improve ABC’s Year-to-Year Performance in Total Viewers and Leads “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in All Key Measures


ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.733 million) and Adults 25-54 (785,000) for the week of June 10, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research.  “Nightline” posted double-digit increases week to week across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+19%), Adults 25-54 (+22%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%) – 1.455 million, 646,000 and 515,000, respectively, on w/o 6/3/13.  In fact, the ABC latenight program delivered its strongest week ever in Adults 18-49 in its new time-slot.  

On Thursday (6/13/13), “Nightline” scored its best-ever Adults 18-49 telecast (962,000) since moving to its time period (since 1/8/13) and 2nd-best ever in Total Viewers (2.230 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.139 million). 

For the week, “Nightline” outdelivered CBS’ “The Late Late Show” in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+443,000), Adults 25-54 (+211,000) and Adults 18-49 (+200,000).  In fact, “Nightline” led “The Late Late Show” by its largest advantages ever in both key adult demos.  

On average in its new time period, “Nightline” has improved ABC’s performance compared to the same weeks last year in Total Viewers (+4%).  In addition, “Nightline” leads CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” across the board: Total Viewers (+157,000), Adults 25-54 (+36,000) and Adults 18-49 (+13,000).

Note: Due to Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday (6/12/13), NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” was retitled “Jimmy Fallon-JF” and was excluded from the averages.  NBC’s weekly average is based on four days (Mon-Tues and Thurs-Fri).

During the week of June 10th, “Nightline” reported on Edward Snowden who risked everything to spill some of America’s biggest secrets; went inside the flashy world of sneakerheads, teens who are spending and sometimes making thousands of dollars by keeping up with the latest sneaker trends; followed a professional trespasser from the tops of skyscrapers to the depths of sewers; traveled to Nepal for a look at rare and endangered birds; and featured “Feed Frenzy” – a nightly look at the buzziest stories of the day, among other reports.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Bill Weir. Juju Chang is a correspondent. Jeanmarie Condon is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights from 12:35 a.m., ET to 1:00 a.m. on the ABC Television Network.  Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.
