The grandson of Nelson Mandela, Kweku Mandela, sat down with ABC News Correspondent Reena Ninan following the celebrations for his grandfather’s 95th birthday in Pretoria, South Africa. In this rare interview with the ABC News/Yahoo! News series”Newsmakers,”Mandela describes the first memory of his grandfather, sitting in a prison cell in 1999 and his fight against apartheid. While Nelson Mandela fought for political freedom, his grandson says the biggest challenge facing his generation is the fight for economic freedom, specifically in Africa, where there remains a shrinking disparity between the rich and the poor. Mandela reflects on his grandfather’s legacy and what he means to him and the next generation.
