A panel of six women have decided the outcome of one of the closest watched court cases in years. Zimmerman, 29, is accused of murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla.

11:57 p.m. ET: "So far it's very quiet," Sanford Police Department spokesman Ronny Neal. "We have people patrolling right now, nothing different than usual. Nothing out of the ordinary. "

11:28 p.m. ET: "The department continues to evaluate the evidence generated during the federal investigation, as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial," a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.

11:16 p.m. ET: Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump compares Trayvon Martin to slain civil rights icons Medgar Evers and Emmet Till.

11:12 p.m. ET: "Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you. You are all that I have. At the end of the day, GOD is still in control. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I will love you forever Trayvon!!! In the name of Jesus!!!" tweets Trayvon martin's mother Sybrina Fulton.

11:02 p.m. ET: "Nothing can bring back Trayvon Martin… It's a tragedy. But, I'm not going to shy away from fact that evidence supported George Zimmerman did nothing wrong, he was battered and beaten by at 17-year-old," O'Mara says.

11:05 p.m. ET: "There's no winners here. There's no monsters here," says defense attorney Don West.

10:59 p.m. ET: "This verdict still has nothing to do with civil rights. Civil rights has to be talked about, but not in relation to George Zimmerman," O'Mara says about the trial's effect on race relations.

10:49 p.m. ET: "I think you need to go somewhere, relax, get your bearings back… I'm sure if he could wave his magic wand, he'd get his life back," O'Mara says about what Zimmerman will do now.

10:45 p.m. ET: "He's very, very happy with results… He's doing good," O'Mara says about Zimmerman after learning results.

Defense attorney Don West congratulates George Zimmerman after his acquittal.

10:44 p.m. ET: "I still think the joke was funny," says Don West, about a joke he made about jury selection during opening statements that fell flat.

10:42 p.m. ET: "I think the prosecution of George Zimmerman was disgraceful… I'm happy this jury kept this tragedy from becoming a travesty," says defense lawyer Don West.

10:41 p.m. ET: "We appreciate the jury's time and effort," says defense attorney Mark O'Mara. "We're ecstatic at the results."

10:30 p.m. ET: "We respect the jury's verdict, but it boils down to a kid minding his own business being followed by a stranger," prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda told reporters at a press conference.

10:11 p.m. ET: Trayvon Martin parents were not in courtroom, but Zimmerman parents were in the room when the verdict was read.

Family lawyers for Martin's family were present: Benjamin Crump, Daryl Parks, and Natalie Jackson.

Just before verdict was read, courtroom was utterly silent. All in courtroom still, gaze focused ahead.

10:10 p.m. ET: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People released the following statement on the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the killing of Trayvon Martin:

NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock: "Today, justice failed Trayvon Martin and his family," said Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman of the NAACP. "We call immediately for the Justice Department to conduct an investigation into the civil rights violations committed against Trayvon Martin. This case has re-energized the movement to end racial profiling in the United States."

10:01 p.m. ET: The jury in the George Zimmerman murder trial has found Zimmerman not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman, who faced the possibility of life in prison, showed no reaction to the jury's verdict.

The six women in the jury delivered their verdict at 10 p.m. after more than 16 hours of deliberations over two days.
